Should you stay or should you go?
Let’s be real, everybody has his or her list of relationship deal breakers. For some it could be more superficial like the whether or not he makes a lot of money, or whether or not she has a body like Gisele.
For others, it could be more serious like your partner not sharing the same values, goals and dreams as you. Regardless each person out there has his or her reasons why he or she will choose to go the distance with someone or not.
For me, my relationship deal breakers are: guys who aren’t honest or trustworthy, guys who don’t have a good sense of humour and guys who don’t get along with my family, friends or two pooches. If you fail on one of these conditions, you can be sure I’ll see you never again.
Luckily, I found someone who past all my relationship standards with flying colours, but unfortunately that’s not the case for everyone.
A recent study came out called “Relationship Dealbreakers: Traits People Avoid in Potential Mates” that sheds a light on what men and women won’t tolerate in a relationship. The study found that overall both men and women tend to weigh the negative traits of their partner much heavier than the positive ones. So I guess we solved the mystery of whether the glass is half-empty or half-full.
The study provided many interesting insights like:
1. Women tend to be pickier than men when choosing their partners.
Researchers credited this to the fact that “women want to avoid costly impregnation by low quality mates.” Or to put it more simply, us ladies don’t want any deadbeat dads.
2. Men and women have differing opinions on sex deal breakers.
For men, quantity is much more important than quality. Whereas, women tend to be pickier when it comes to quality rather than quantity. So essentially men want it as many times as they can get it, and women would much rather orgasm all the time on fewer occasions. Interesting…
3. Guys want less talk and girls want more action.
For men, a gabbing girl is more likely to get the boot. But for women, a guy that plays or watches an excessive amount of video games or TV is more likely to get their ass kicked to the curb.
Despite these differences, there are some relationship deal breakers both men and women can agree on.
When it comes to short-term relationships, both sexes are likely to call it off if the person:
· Has STDs
· Smells bad
· Has poor personal hygiene
· Is already in a relationship
· Is bad in bed
· Is unattractive
When it comes to long-term relationships, both sexes are likely to peace out if the person:
· Is untrustworthy
· Is already in a relationship/married
· Has STDs
· Is inattentive/uncaring
· Is dismissive of his or her interests
· Has poor hygiene
· Smells bad
So from these results, it’s safe to say that no one’s a fan of herpes (no kidding), and you have to do more than swipe right in a relationship, you also need a swipe of deodorant and preferably on a frequent basis.
