If your date nights are getting repetitive and dinner and movie is getting old, no worries, WinSport has you covered.
You may know this spot as the location of the 1988 Winter Olympics, or maybe you’ve skied here in the winter, but during the summer WinSport’s Canada Olympic Park has a lengthy list of activities for you and your honey to take part in. The best part? These activities wont cost you an arm and a leg – some of them are pretty crazy, so hold your breathe.
If you’re feeling adventurous, we recommend checking out WinSport’s Adrenaline Combo. This is a sure way to impress your partner with your bravery and spontaneity. The combo includes two action-packed attractions for $99 a person: the zipline and the summer bobsleigh.
The zipline is the fastest in North America, riders can get up to speed of 120km/hr – about as fast as a cheetah at full speed. You can choose to ride any of the three ziplines, but if you’re an adrenaline junkie you’ll most likely go for the Monster. This line is 500 metres long and the drop is 100 metres high (gulp). Raised 90 feet about the ground, you shoot off from Calgary’s highest vantage point, the ski jump tower, and then soar down the hill at your chosen speed: scenic, slow, medium, or fast. Whatever speed you choose you will experience the spectacular views of Calgary as you fly through the air, as long as your eyes aren’t closed in fear.
Note: do not be fooled – ‘scenic’ is no way relaxing, it’s definitely still fast enough to get your heart pumping.
If the Adrenaline Combo sounds intimidating, there’s no need to stress, the staff at WinSport will walk you through every step of the process, they even have a practice line to make sure your stopping technique is on point. You will never be left hanging – until you hit the zipline that is.
The other part of the Adrenaline Combo is the summer bobsleigh ride, which is the only activity at the park where an actual Olympic athlete accompanies you on your thrilling ride. The bobsleigh track twists around 10 turns, including the famous Omega and Kreisel corners. This bobsleigh can take you up to 80km/hr, the 60-second ride will be something you never forget.
The bobsleigh ride with take about 30 minutes, while the zipline can take up to one hour if you ride all of the park’s three ziplines. If your worried about getting up the hill to these insane rides, don’t fret – transportation to each base is included in your activity package.
If you’re in the mood for something a little more mellow, the park’s mini golf is a seriously good time. It’s 18-holes of fierce competition – depending on who your date is–and with the Rockies in the background, this will be one of the most scenic rounds of mini golf you ever play. Mini golf is only $10 a person, making it a date well worth the price.
To raise the odds, we recommend placing a bet on your game: the loser buys the winner a victory prize. If you’re drawing a blank, there’s a great selection of ice cream treats in the mini golf clubhouse – just sayin’.
Aside from the activities mentioned above, you can go explore some of the park’s mountain biking trails, or if your date is a huge Mario Kart fan then you have to check out Skyline Luge, a unique gravity-wheeled ride down a track from the of the hill with 50 twists and turns throughout.
