Halloween is definitely one of the most fun holidays of the year. Indulging in candy, cuddling up with bae watching scary movies, and dressing up in some of the best costumes.. What could be better? This year, Calgary’s Halloween scene is packed with tons of dope activities for you to enjoy. No matter how you prefer to spend your holiday, we know one of these events below will make your Halloween as memorable as it should be.

1. Calgary Ghost Tours

Spend an evening enjoying ghostly entertainment with your date where a tour guide will walk you through some of Calgary’s spookiest spots. The Inglewood Ghost Tour will lead you through Calgary’s most haunted neighbourhood, and you’ll learn about other resident ghosts in the Downtown and Kensington walks.

Don’t miss  the Medium / Psychic walk in Banff on October 23rd or The Fright Night Festival and the Sinister Sideshow on October 29th.

2. Screamfest
October 8th, 14th, 15th, 21st, 22nd, 27th to 31st at 7 pm

Welcome back Screamfest to YYC this October. Walk through haunted houses, try your luck at Halloween themed carnival games, and be prepared for a fright from their array of creepy entertainment.  

They’ve got a few new attractions this year including Adults Only Night on Thursday October 27th where there will be adult entertainment and a site wide liquor license in place. Leave the kids at home, no one under 18 will be allowed in. Be sure to check out the Zombie Hunter (a shooting gallery style game featuring zombie props AND moving targets), The Trapeze of Death Ropes Course, Coffin Ride (not for the faint of heart – experience being buried alive), and eight escape rooms.

3. Venetian Mask Workshop

Join Maker on October 26th for their Venetian Mask Workshop at WURST. Choose from an array of paint colours, feathers, accessories, and embellishments to make your best costume yet.

4. Hip Hop Halloween
October 26th from 8:00pm to 11:00pm

What could be better than pumpkin painting and Drake? On Wednesday, October 26th, join us in putting down the carving knife and picking up a paintbrush as we bring you Hip Hop Halloween at Cafe Koi. BYOPumpkin, but don’t worry about the drinks – your ticket includes one complimentary beverage.

5. Azuridge Estate Haunted Hotel
October 27th to October 31st at Various Times

From October 27th to 31st, Azuridge is transforming into a “haunted hotel.” They’ll be hosting a series of Halloween-themed events at the estate, including Medieval Ghost Battles, Flashlight Forest Trails, a real-life game of Clue, and trick-or-treating on Oct. 31 for the little ones.

6. Modern Pumpkin Workshop

7. Prohibition Era Cocktail: The Corpse Reviver #2

Join Eau Claire Distillery on October 27th as they take you on a trip of prohibition era cocktails with a special highlight on the Corpse Reviver #2. Enjoy a special Halloween-themed event at the distillery where you can tour the venue, enjoy some libations, and snack on delicious bites. Tickets are $65 and include transportation, four drinks, and snacks.

8. A Hollywood Murder
October 27th at 6pm

The Bow Valley Ranche Restaurant will be converting its Grand Salon to theatre banquet style on October 27th. Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted with a welcome cocktail and escorted to your seats. At 7pm, there’s a three course dinner and a mystery show. Costumes highly encouraged.

9. Dracula

This Halloween, let the Alberta Ballet sweep you away to a charming village in Transylvania for their production of Dracula. Lose yourself in this classic masterpiece with enchanting choreography, incredible special effects, and impressive costumes to boot (Dracula wears a 23-foot-long cape).  You won’t want to miss this.

10. Halloween Weekend at Home & Away

12. Nightmare at Ivy

80th & Ivy is throwing one of the best Halloween parties in the city. With door prizes and giveaways all night, costume prizes, and drink specials, this is the spend your Halloweekend Friday night.

There will also be a “Scarecrow Limbo” and “Head to Head” Dance off so bring your costume and your dancing shoes. Things are getting turnt.

13. Halloween Bend and Brunch

On Saturday October 29th, join the team at Raw Eatery & Market and yoga teacher Breanna Morandi to enjoy a morning of mindful movement and a beautifully designed Brunch menu before the chaos of Halloweekend kicks in.

The morning will start off with an hour long yoga class (10:30 – 11:30). Afterwards, enjoy a delicious brunch created by nutritionist Megan Pope of Raw Eatery & Market. Grab your mat and your fellow yogis  – you’ll want to be here for this one.

14. Monster Mash-Up

Science and Halloween just might be two of our favourite things and on October 29, it’s coming to Telus Spark. Kick off your Halloween festivities by watching live science demonstrations and partaking in interactive activities like pumpkin decorating and a mad science hall where you get to conduct weird and wonderful experiments of your own. Costumes are encouraged so dress up in your best Halloween attire and head to Telus Spark for a frightfully fun time.  

15. Hallow’s Eve in the Village

On October 29th and 30th, watch in amazement as the East Village Neighbourhood Association spooks up East Village with Hallow’s Eve in the Village: Godric’s Hollow. There will be tricks and treats from the wizarding world, along with a collective tent of artisan vendors, food trucks, and a beer garden. Admission is $5 and only 5000 entries are guaranteed each day of the event, so make sure you get down there early.

16. Kensington Halloween Pub Crawl

Halloween hits Kensington on October 29th. Join the lively neighbourhood from 2:00pm ‘til late and explore some of Kensington’s staple restaurants and pubs for a Halloween drink. Expect to see twelve local favourites including Oak Tree Tavern, Kensington Pub, ContainR Bar, Hayden Block Smoke & Whiskey, and more.

Make sure to stop into Raw Canvas too. They’ll be hosting a special haunted house and black light  painting class. There will also be $2.50 shots of vodka with a worm available to purchase – if you dare.  

17. Absolut 80’s/90’s Throwback Halloween

Come dressed in your favourite acid-washed jeans, biker shorts, and jellies for Trolley 5’s Throwback Halloween Party. 22. ThrillerYYC Halloween Party & Fundraiser

The 2nd annual Ghoul Ghala happens at Barcelona Tavern on October 29th. There will be a live DJ, live performances featuring a tribute to Michael Jackson’s music, a silent auction, a costume contest, and tons of other fun treats in store. Proceeds from the event will go towards supporting the Canadian Centre for Male Survivors of Child Sexual Abuse (CC4MS).

23. Halloween Ski Lodge Party

Patio season may have been cut short, but National 8th is keeping the party going on the rooftop with a Retro Ski Lodge Halloween party. Bundle up in your best 80’s ski gear, and get ready for a night of après-ski activities in the National 8th Ski Chalet. Stay warm with Shotskis, Mulled Mead Cider and some Parallel 49 pints (and their heat lamps, of course.)

25. Rogue Pumpkins

Would you like a side of Jack o’ Lantern with your Dead Guy Ale? National 17th has teamed up with Rogue Brewery so every pint of Dead Guy Ale sold on Sunday October 30th comes with a free pumpkin, as well as all the tools you’ll need to carve it as you drink. There will be lots of prizes given out to carvers throughout the day, and a chance to win the Grand Prize at the end of the day. Ask your server for details. Pro-Tip – nothing in the rules says you can’t bring props from home to give your masterpiece some extra oomph

26. Paranormal Halloween Party

Join Ghost Hunt Alberta at the former funeral home turned pub, the Rose and Crown, as they throw an epic Halloween party for the ages on October 30th. Members of Ghost Hunt Alberta will join your table and share their paranormal stories and evidence with you. You’ll also be able to get a one on one psychic reading from Bonnie Milner of Shadowdivination and have the opportunity to explore an area of the pub with a Ghost Hunt Alberta leader. 27. Pumpkin Carving
