5 Things Everyone’s Talking About This Week

From the tense season finale of ‘Merica to Prince Harry’s new leading lady, here’s what everyone’s talking about this week.

1. The American Election

After the most scandalous, drawn out, and over talked about election, the United States finally has a new leader (and no it’s not Hillary Clinton). The internet seems confused about how that happened, but there are Americans out there who have had their voice heard. Everyone else is a little concerned about the opinions, ideas and actions that define who Trump is. All we can do is wait to see how serious he was with his threats and policies. In other news, the Canadian immigration website crashed due to an overwhelming amount of American traffic; the panic is setting in.

2. Stranger Things Season 2

If you have found yourself rewatching season one for the seventh time and felt yourself going into serious withdrawal, fear not because season two is now in production. Linnea Berthelsen, Sean Astin, and Paul Reiser have been added to the roster for the next season, bringing in new characters and new story lines. Netflix is set to release the next season in 2017.  In the meantime, there is tons of Internet gossip to read up on about the casting choices and predictions for what’s going to happen.

3. Prince Harry + Meghan Markle

In a statement released yesterday, Prince Harry finally confirmed that Meghan Markle is in fact his girlfriend and she has been for several months. However, it hasn’t been all sunshine and rainbows for the Suits star, her safety has been one of Prince Harry’s biggest concerns since the rumours started flying. She’s been under much public abuse and harassment from the media including sexist and racist comments. Unfortunately, there is no Harvey Spector to the rescue to fight off the legal battles of aggressive paparazzi and reporters.

4. Toblerone Loses Peaks

Chocoholics everywhere are outraged with the newly released Toblerone bars. The company has taken out half of the peaks, leaving large spaces between the remaining mountains. The company’s reasoning behind the design change is a result of the high cost of chocolate. Either the company had to raise its prices or lower the weight and it went with the latter hoping fans wouldn’t mind the gap. Some people feel tricked that the bar will still look the same on the outside, but with less chocolate when you go to eat it. The optimists, on the other hand are praising the company for explaining why it changed the bar, something that lots of companies wouldn’t do.

5. Mannequin Challenge

The Internet has lit up with the newest viral video fad, the #mannequinchallenge. What does this mean you ask? Well to do the challenge you must gather group of individuals and create a tableau so motionless it appears as though time is temporarily frozen (like mannequins, obvi). Google it to find endless examples of sports teams, groups of friends and even Hillary Clinton herself staged in motionless acts. It’s kind of like planking, but way cooler. And let’s be real, way less ab work.
