9 Healthy Eats for Your Detox this Week

With so many amazing midway foods to try this year, getting back into the swing of things can be hard. After 10 days of holidays (because let’s face it - no real work actually gets done during Stampede), it’s hard to get back into eating healthy and achieving those summer bod goals. Although you may still be craving mini donuts and deep fried oreos, it’s time to face reality and get into that post-Stampede detox - life is tough.   

That’s why we’ve come up with a list of 9 healthy eats for your detox this week that will help boost your energy, make you more productive, and leave you feeling better overall.

Remember -  just because you overdid it last week doesn’t mean you need to hibernate at home.

1. Ten Foot Henry

The amazing people at Ten Foot Henry have found a miraculous way to bridge the gap between what we should be eating and what we really want to eat. Their menu is 70% vegetable focused and most of their dishes can be easily turned vegan so we can eat all of their delectable dishes without feeling guilty. If you’ve never been, their Tomato dish is a must with herbs, olive oil, whipped feta, and toast. Just don’t blame us when you go back for seconds.

If you’re in search of a more savoury item, try their Bacos – half bread, half taco served warm and stuffed with flavour + colourful ingredients, crafted with signature fillings, garnished with fresh herbs, and brushed with extra virgin olive oil.

5. Cafe Koi

At Cafe Koi, they offer a unique Asian-fusion menu that blends the culinary flavours of China, Korea, and Japan. Their menu offers plenty of options for those who prefer gluten free, vegetarian, or vegan dishes and with over 100 pounds of vegetables making its way into their dishes daily, this is sure to be a safe yet delicious stop in your recovery. Menu items include sandwiches, salads, signature bowls, and fun appetizers like duck confit rolls and vegetarian gyozas.  

6. The Coup

At The Coup, they believe that your body deserves only the best. That’s why their products have been selected based on deep ecological ethics, meaning a large percentage of their ingredients are organic, local, and made from scratch. Their menu features breakfast, lunch, and dinner options, most of which can be made gluten-free or vegan upon request, as well as an incredible cocktail list to boot. Look out for their Mealshare options too. For every Mealshare meal you purchase, a meal is provided to someone in need.

7. Bar C
340 17th Avenue SW

Bar C is a contemporary restaurant and lounge offering a casual atmosphere to unwind after work or to spend the night with old and new friends. Their menu is bursting with healthy choices including grilled asparagus, mushroom & sweet pea risotto, and charcuterie for days. They open at 4 pm from Monday to Friday, but come early on the weekends – their brunch is spot-on.  

8. Sushi Bar Zipang

Sushi Bar Zipang makes healthy date nights easy with their incredible menu. From fresh sushi and sashimi to traditional cooked Japanese cuisine, they’ve truly got it all. While you’ll often find patrons ordering from their extensive sashimi list in this local Bridgeland favourite, you’ll also want to try their tantalizing appetizers. To keep it on the lighter side of things, try the Sunomono with your choice of prawn, octopus, or surf clam, or the sauteed chicken yakitori in teriyaki sauce.    

9. Wise & Wright

Wise & Wright may be one of the newest restaurants to hit the local YYC scene, but don’t let that fool you – their food is no joke. Based on the philosophy that food should be made with natural, wholesome ingredients that taste delicious, their menu consists of just that. With breakfast sandwiches, waffles, superfood lunch bowls, and local yogurts, to choose from, Wise & Wright is sure to become a new local favourite. They also offer cold pressed juice made with the freshest ingredients and coconut-filtered water, bottled in house. Check out their smoothie program too, with a variety of tasty blends designed for fitness appealing to the health conscious lifestyles.
