Roses are red, violets are blue. Date nights in the city are cool and so are you (yes, we went there). Leave it to the month of February to bring lots of love, snow, travel, midterms, and hopefully tons of chocolate to our lives.

From sipping on wine at Winefest to trivia nights galore, we’ve got what you need to make chapter two of twelve the best one yet. Here are 32 things you need to get a pulse on in YYC this February:

1. Whales | Tohorā Exhibit
January 20th-June 20th
TELUS Spark, 220 St Georges Dr NE

This whale-y impressive exhibit is included in your admission fee to Telus Spark, so there’s no reason not to check it out. Whales | Tohorā has been touring across North America for the last 10 years and Calgary is the last stop on our continent. As an added bonus you’ll learn a thing or two about the biggest mammals living in our oceans, key facts that you can use when you’re on your next Tinder date.

2. Twelfth Night
January 30th-February 24th
Theatre Calgary, 240 9 Ave SE

The perfect date night out. Watch as twins Viola and Sebastian are separated in a shipwreck and forced to find their way in a strange new land on their own. Fortunately, Illyria holds much misadventure, love, and laughter for them both. This refreshing take on Shakespeare’s classic comedy will leave you rolling in the aisles and begging for a thirteenth night.

3. 2018 YYC Hot Chocolate Fest
February 1st-February 28th

Hot chocolate lovers rejoice! February comes with cold AF temperatures and what goes well with frosty fingertips? All the hot beverages you can ask for. Join in on the friendly competition to find Calgary’s Best Hot Chocolate and visit the various local venues participating in the festival. A portion of the proceeds from each purchase will be donated to support Calgary Meals on Wheels.



4. February Cats & Yoga
February 1st, 6th, 7th, 8th, 15th, 18th, 20th, 21st, 22nd, 25th at 9:15am-10:30am or 7:45-9pm

This is a one of a kind show featuring some of Canada’s most coveted ballet, hip hop, contemporary, tap and ballroom dancers, which is meant to celebrate the winter blues (and more particularly, lift our audience’s collective spirit following Blue Monday). The performance is followed by a beautifully decorated gala reception with drinks, artisan hors d’oeuvres and a silent auction, the proceeds of which benefit Pancreatic Cancer Canada. Everyone wears blue so you won’t have to worry about matching.



7. The Big Game
February 4th from 12-8pm
National on 10th, 341 10th Ave SW

National’s pulling out the big guns this year. And by guns we mean screens. Watch the Superbowl while enjoying All Day Happy Hour specials on all Wild Rose Brewery pints, a Footlong Smokie feature, and game-day pricing on their famous wings. Game day has never been so easy. The Calgary Zoo has been cranking up the Valentine’s Day heat in Calgary for over two decades. Join them for In the Heat of the Night. This adult only event runs for just two nights, on February 13 and 14—basically the two most romantic nights of the year. Your ticket includes a delicious meal, romantic wandering violinists, educational talks, games and a playful intimate exchange about romance in the wild. Not sold yet? 19. February Brewmaster’s Dinner

You better put your stretchy pants on for this one. Whether celebrating Valentine’s Day with bae or hitting the town with your friends and family, this four-course dinner paired with beer and wine tastings will be sure to impress. Hosted by a local Cicerone & Sommelier, guests will enjoy an Amuse Bouch followed by three courses that are selectively paired with complementing wine or beer and of course, dessert. 31. Constellations by Nick Payne

An international Broadway hit, Constellations is coming to Alberta Theatre Projects this month. This captivating love story tells the tale of an unlikely romance between a beekeeper and a physicist. After an unexpected encounter brings them together, romance doesn’t seem likely, but what happens next defies the limits of our understanding of time and space. Called “the most sophisticated date play broadway has seen,” by The New York Times, this play makes you think about how love can either bring us together or pull us apart.


32. Speed Dating (Singles 25+)
February 28th from 6-8pm
Bourbon Room, 341 10 Ave SW

Put down your phone and join us for 3D Tinder. Each event has 20 single women and 20 single men to connect with. The women stay in the same seat and the men rotate. Each date will last from 4-5 minutes. You can practice your flirting skills and game while meeting new people. We collect your matches at the end of the night and will contact you with your matches the following day. This is so you don’t have the awkward phone number exchange at the end of the conversation. Your contact info is only shared with permission and if you have a match.
