Spring is officially upon us and there are so many ways to celebrate – from live plays and productions to foodie events, here’s what’s up this March in YYC.

1. Constellations

An international hit on Broadway and in London’s West End, Constellations is a spellbinding love story about an unlikely romance between Roland, a beekeeper, and Marianne, a physicist. After a chance encounter at a barbeque brings them together the possibility of a spark seems unlikely, but what happens next defies the limits of our understanding of time and space. Unfolding in a series of parallel moments over the course of their relationship, the play explores the infinite trajectories that love can take to bring us together or pull us apart.

4. Jazz Nights at the Ranche

5. The Big Taste

Foodies rejoice! The Big Taste is back and more delicious than ever. The annual food festival is back in YYC from March 2nd to March 11th and features specially curated three-course lunches or dinners and $65 five-course gourmet masterpieces from participating restaurants. With more than 90 participating restaurants, this is one festival you definitely won’t want to miss.

6. Five Alarm Funk at the Palace Theatre

7. Calgary Maple Festival

Back for its 16th year, The Calgary Maple Festival is an annual winter event held since 2016 at Heritage Park. This festival is a two-day-long celebration of the French Canadian, Metis, and First Nations cultures. Find shows of traditional music and dance, a Sugar Market of local vendors, a visual arts exhibition, maple taffy on snow, and more all weekend.

8. AARCS Rescue Adoption Event

10. Walk in Her Shoes 2018

On Sunday, March 4 join hundreds of Calgarians on a 5,000 step walk around the Zoo to support women and girls in poverty around the world. End with a celebration at the ENMAX Conservatory with appetizers and activities.  This event is great for a date or for a fun afternoon with the whole family – all for a great cause. Tickets include admission into the Calgary Zoo and children under 17 years old are free when accompanied by an adult.

11. A Red Carpet Affair

On March 4th, Calgary’s red carpet event of the year makes its return. Join the Calgary International Film Festival at The Palace Theatre for their annual Oscar Party. Get dolled up to walk the red carpet as you celebrate Hollywood’s best and most successful films of the year. There will also be entertainment, food and libations, a silent auction, door prizes, and an Oscars ballot where you can cast your own vote on who you think should win. Proceeds from this event will help raise funds for the Calgary International Film Festival.

12. The Humans

Set inside a duplex apartment in New York City’s Chinatown, you’ll want to take a look inside Theatre Calgary’s production of The Humans. Join the Blake family’s Thanksgiving get-together
as old tensions boil over and secrets are revealed. Winner of the 2016 Tony Award for Best Place and a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, this play is sure to be something you’re thankful for.

13. Trivia Night at Jamesons Pub Brentwood: The Office Part II

18. Half Your Plate Chefs Dinner

This foodie event was created to showcase how produce can bring your meal to the next level. Back for its second year, you’ll learn how to get creative with your fruits and veggies while enjoying unique dishes from nine local chefs. The evening will feature a hor d’oeuvres reception, seated five-course experience, live entertainment, culinary demonstrations, and alcohol pairings from local distilleries. Each dinner guest will receive a Culinary Chef’s Bag filled with items to take home and try in the kitchen. Proceeds help support the Community Kitchen of Calgary and the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation.

Alberta Ballet brings one of our favourite classical fairytales to stage this month with Alberta Ballet’s Cinderella. This world premiere, inspired by the 1697 Charles Perrault edition, introduces all the characters and elements we’ve come to know and love like the Fairy Godmother, Stepsisters, Prince Charming, and of course, a magical pair of sparkling shoes.  

23. Yuk Yuks Comedy Night Fundraiser
