If you say you don’t like tacos, than please tell us what on earth could possibly be better. We’ll wait.
*crickets chirping*
Okay now that we’ve settled that debate, here are our top 5 taco spots to put on your never ending list for date night. (p.s. We love all our taco spots equally and these are in no particular order)
Number 1
Hugo’s Mexican Kitchen
Now to start the tour off we have Hugo’s Mexican kitchen located right on the boarder of Surrey and Langley. Anyone local would say that they are located in Langley just in case your maps app of choice says otherwise.
Firstly, when you walk into Hugo’s you are immediately transported to your happy place. The inside is super fun and it definitely feels like you are transported to a little beach town. Start your date night off with chips, guac and a side of all of their sauces! It is actually an unreal combo. Plus you get to decide which sauce you like best and want to put on you main. Hopefully you and your date choose separate ones so you don’t have to share. Now for the real winners, TACOS. We recommend mix and matching a few so you get lots of flavour. (Pro tip: Ask for a couple of tortillas on the side so that when stuff falls out of your first tacos you can make another one.
Don’t for get to save room for Churros. You and your date will be disappointed if you don’t finish with these bad boys.
Number 2
Tacofino
IYKYK – Tacofino is one of the OG taco spots of the Lower Mainland
It started with their Taco truck in the gorgeous little town of Tofino, BC. (Definitely a must see and more on that trip later)
With that being said, there is nothing better than sitting on one of their patios with your date around the city and crushing multiple tacos and margs. Feeling competitive? Have a competition with your date to see who can eat more tacos. Loser buys the next round of margs.
Or if you are on an adventure, like a bike tour, stop by one of their taco trucks and get the good stuff togo enjoy on the beach or in a park.
They have 13 spots across Vancouver, Victoria and Tofino to dine in or pick up your favourite creations. There is bound to be one on your route and you can make a taco crawl out of them seeing as their menus vary!
Number 3
Ophelia Mexican Kitchen
Ophelia loves their Happy Hour and we love them for that.
Located in Olympic Village and specializing in authentic Mexican cuisine, you are sure to find yourself swept away from real life into a state of taco bliss.
7 days a week you and your date can enjoy $4 tacos paired with an Ophelia Margarita. Not only is this margarita bomb, it’s also pink. 12/10 for creativity and instagramability. Now if you are both not on the margarita train that is totally cool. We know that our friend tequila can be a wild one so they have lots of options for you to pick from! Don’t forget to start or incorporate a side of guac and chips because it might be the best guac we’ve ever tried.
Number 4
Sal Y Limon
Say hello to our amazing friends over at Sal Y Limon.
Okay but how does $3 tacos sound?! These ones are fun because you can do a little bit of customization and that my friends is gold in our taco books. You’ve got the chef recipe tacos starting at a cool $3 and it kind of just goes up from there when you add you cheeses, guac and salsas.
They ALSO have taco feast kits and if that doesn’t make you cry happy tears, please check that you are in fact alive. The taco kits feed 4-5 people or just yourself depending on how ambitious you are feeling. We believe in you. Great idea if you want to have a group date in a park or at the beach.
A fun addition is that they also carry a variety of authentic Mexican style drinks to go with your feast.
Number 5
La Taqueria
So obviously we have to talk about the tacos here but what we love about La Taqueria is that they have a truck that you can rent to cater your event! (* COVID restriction may effect this little party)
But how cool would that be if you had a taco truck at your wedding, bachelor(ette) party, birthday, corporate event post COVID, or they even talk about coming to movie sets.
Either way if you dine in or have the coolest party anyone has ever seen, you are sure to be blown away by the flavour punch of these tacos.
Another fun thing to note is that they have margaritas to go. Now if that doesn’t scream (socially distanced and responsible outdoor) party we don’t know what does. Pick up a few tacos, margaritas, and have the best night in bing watching your favourite show. Pj’s and slippers are recommended.
Actually feel like getting dressed? Hang out on one of their great patios. We recommend their location on Yukon St. since it is close to the Broadway – City Hall Canada Line station.
