Add these breakfast spots to your foodie date bucket list!

Bro’kin Yolk

If you have a big day of shopping and going to the cinema then Bro’kin Yolk is the place to start.  Farm fresh goodies all locally sourced are placed before you on the table. There are so many excellent choices that you wouldn’t know where to begin.

However, we will say that their Cali poutine is the best ever!  Savoury hashbrowns underneath some fresh arugula, tomatoes, avocado which is finished off with poached eggs and creamy hollandaise. Commence mouth watering.

Where to find them: 2580 Symons Valley Rd NW #130, Calgary

Monki Breakfast Bistro

The bohemian rhapsody of all breakfasts. This hip restaurant is for all of those who have a whimsical side (that’s reflected in their breakfast dates). They specialize in unconventional meals that should be on the bucket list of all foodies everywhere.  For the ultimate decadence go for the reverse French toast. Cream cheese stuffed with strawberry compote, slathered with white and hazelnut milk chocolate sauce. Gimme gimme gimme!

Where to find them: They have two Calgary locations including Inglewood (1420 9 AVE SE #4) and Beltline (1301 10 Ave SW)

Galaxie Diner

It’s like going back into the 1950’s. This eatery has that classic diner look and feel with all the beloved foods you would find in one, perfect for breakfast dates! Comfy, cozy, and just the place to warm up your appetite.

Our recommendation from this place is the Huevos Rancheros. A tortilla topped with soft basted eggs, salsa, cheese, green onions and last but not least avocado. You are also free to add your favourite meat to it. That’s the tops!

Where to find them: 1413 11th Street SW., Calgary

OEB

Nutritious and delicious. That is an excellent combination especially if you have allergies or dietary restrictions. To any couple who is health focused and looking for a good meal, OEB Breakfast is the place to go. They have a variety of options for every kind of appetite but I find myself having a favourite.  That is the vegetable primavera scram-blette.  Mushrooms, spinach, tomatoes, and peppers mixed in with feta cheese is a healthful harvest to behold.

Where to find them: They have four locations across Calgary including Bridgeland (825 1st Ave NE), Downtown (#110 222 5 Ave SW), Mission (2207 4 St SW), and a new location in the University District (4132 University Ave. NW).

Red’s Diner

If you’re hungry in the morning, Red’s is your kind of place. Expect a big plate full of your breakfast favourites in this warm and friendly diner. No one would call this place a classic diner as it is a modern but down-to-earth oasis in the city. If you are a fan of hash plates, you will want one of Red’s.  Each one is delish but my favourite is the vegetarian one because it has all the best ingredients. Dive in!

Where to find them: They have four locations across Calgary including 58th (324 58th Ave S.E.), Ramsay (1101 8 St S.E.), Kensington (286 – 10th St. N.W.), 4th Street (1415 – 4th St S.W.)

Diner Deluxe

The executive of all breakfasts, Diner Deluxe is the place to go.  You’ve seen this place on the food channel and for good reason.  The food is fresh, beautifully prepared, and will fill you with comfort the second you take that first bite.

When you are having one of those days where you are craving a cinnamon bun, get this one. Its house made, full of cream cheese icing and mascarpone mousse.  If that is not sweet enough, they also add rum caramel sauce and candied pecans.

Where to find them: They have two locations in Calgary with a third coming soon including Bridgeland (804 Edmonton Tr NE), Mahogany (106 Mahogany Centre SE), and Marda Loop opening this year at 2240 33ave SW.

Queens Breakfast Cocktails

Looking for luxury? Queen’s Diner is the way to go. This isn’t just any diner either, it is a lavish restaurant for the most vibrant of people. Some would argue that this is more than just a breakfast restaurant but when you have one of their cocktails it will make you shine like the sun.

The Kiss Kiss Bang Bang Cocktail proves that with the sweet and sour all rolled into one.  It never hurts to treat yourself to a diamond once in a while.

Where to find them: 3927 Edmonton Trail, Calgary

Brekkie

Bringing home and family together is what this restaurant does best. They pride themselves on being food forward and so they should. Each item has the warm contentment of breakfast as well as a unique mix of flavours. For something that brings out your inner child, go for the orange creamsicle pancakes.  The white chocolate, whipped cream, shortbread streusel, citrus custard and marmalade are all on top of buttermilk pancakes. Talk about a wonderful sense of nostalgia.

Where to find them: 125-20 Westpark Link SW., Calgary

“Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.”

We have all heard this quote at some point in our lives. One thing I think we can all agree on is that breakfast is probably the most satisfying meal of the day. So, you can keep your lunches and your dinners because it’s been done too many times. Breakfast is the new romantic way to go when you want to treat the person of your affections to a delicious meal.

Bring on the French toast!
