Upon checking in, the staff were extremely hospitable and welcoming, giving us all the key information we needed for our stay and advised us to get in touch with them if we needed anything else. We made our way to the corner king room and the first thing we noticed was the stunning downtown views and the aerial view of the Stephen Avenue pedestrian walkway; the room itself was also very cozy and spacious, making it the perfect space for a nice little staycation. A charcuterie and cheese board was left for us to indulge which had local charcuterie, Canadian cheese, preserves, pickles and crisps, along with non-alcoholic cocktails by Wild Folk which paired up perfectly (a new personal favourite of mine). These amenities are available for purchase to enhance your stay and made for a perfect afternoon or late-night snack after a day spent downtown.
Dining at The Calgary Marriott
Then, we made our way to ONE18 Empire for our dinner reservations, and it did not disappoint. The food was tasty and the Happening Happy Hour that’s every Thursday with live music added a nice touch to the overall experience. Their specialities during this Happy Hour are wine on tap, beer on tap, the ONE18 Empire Taber Corn Old Fashioned (maple syrup, whiskey barrel bitters, maple smoke and 2 ounces of exclusive ONE18 bourbon) and the smoked chicken wings. We had the chance to try out the charred Brussel sprouts and the Alberta beef tartare which were both extremely flavourful and made for great appetizers. Our personal favourite was the main dish we had, which was the sous-vide lamb top sirloin. They truly were cooked to perfection and it was a great balance of moist and tender. For dessert, we had the caramelized white chocolate cheesecake.
The following morning, we enjoyed some Starbucks which is conveniently right at the lobby of the hotel and headed up back to the room to soak in the views for one last time before checking out.
