Meet local couple Jessica (@jsjanzen) and Hot Ronnie. You might have seen Jessica and her family on Instagram. Co-founders of the Love for Lewiston Foundation, the organization helps raise funds to find a cure for SMA and support the Alberta Children’s Hospital – all in honour of their little Lion Lewiston. They are passionate about spreading love and joy to local families in Calgary and have made a huge impact in our city with their story. Read on to learn more about Jessica and Ronnie.
How long have you been together?
We have been together since March 2010 so over 8 years! Married for 5 years in July.
How did you meet?
We worked together at Jugo Juice Head Office. I thought he was rude and he thought I was way too bossy.
If you could choose two celebrities to play yourselves in a movie, who would you choose and why? What would the movie be about?
Blake Lively or Jennifer Lawrence for Jessica and Ryan Gosling or Bradley Cooper for Hot Ronnie.
It would be about our love story – honestly think The Notebook. We have had some crazy twists and turns that got us to this point. Incredible how we are together.
What are your top 3 date spots in Calgary?
Ronnie and I set Tuesday night aside for date night – sometimes we have to book a board meeting but really try to take this.
1. Ricardo’s for plantain chips and jerk chicken and a Moscow mule.
2. Ten Foot Henry for the best food in town and to celebrate a milestone or something special we have worked towards. We are never disappointed and always leave blown away by the food quality.
3. Lynx Ridge for a game of golf. They hosted our Golf Tournament for Love for Lewiston and did an amazing job and lets us do our date nights there.
If one of your favourite artists were to write a song about you, what would it be called and why?
Carrie Underwood and it would be called ‘It Ain’t Easy – But So Worth It.’
What would your advice be on how to overcome challenges in a relationship?
Show up for your partner the way you want them to show up for you. Half of fights or challenges come from silly understandings. Make the decision that regardless (of whatever comes your way), you will stay committed. Relationships are hard work but so worth it. It is far better to share life with someone than without.
What superpower does your partner have?
Dedication and hard work for Hot Ronnie. I have never seen anyone so committed and focused – he never gives up.
Jessica’s super power is always bringing joy regardless of what is going on around her.
How has It’s Date Night helped improve your relationship both with the city and as a couple?
It’s so fun to see activities and cool things in town that we can check out. Makes planning easy and when we are both busy with work, it makes it simple to make our date nights happen.
