Hey fam! The long weekend is fast approaching get ready for an epic Family Day long weekend because this year’s got something for everyone! Whether you’re craving outdoor adventures, musical theatre, or full-blown winter magic check out these events happening around the city.

UIAA Ice Climbing World Championship and YEG Ice Fest

The Alpine Club of Canada Edmonton Section is excited to be hosting the 2024 UIAA Ice Climbing World Championship and YEG Ice Fest. This a four day outdoor event happening February 16-19, 2024 is a perfect family event, all ages are welcome. Along with the Championship showcases, attendees will have the opportunity to sign up for ice climbing lessons, check out the winter market, skate, try fatbiking, and more!

Starting on Friday with the opening ceremonies, the competition will run over Saturday, with the championship finals on Sunday, the YEG Ice Fest will close out with a free admissions day on Monday. Purchase your tickets ahead of time to save money!

Weekend Passes – $35: This ticket includes Saturday, Sunday & Afterparty access. Single Day Tickets Saturday or Sunday – $20: includes afterparty access. Children 12 and under are free with purchase of a ticket.

An activities day will be held on Monday February 19th – with free admission.

Matilda Jr. Musical

Do you recall the classic story of Matilda? Bring the family to Festival Place and enjoy the tale of a little girl with astonishing wit, intelligence and psychokinetic powers! Based on the beloved book “Matilda” by Roald Dahl and adapted from the award-winning full-length musical, Roald Dahl’s Matilda, Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical JR. tells the story of an extraordinary girl who, armed with a vivid imagination and a sharp mind, dares to take a stand and change her own destiny.

Individual tickets $20 – $29: Showings will start Friday, February 16, 2024 at 6:30pm, Saturday/Sunday two showtimes: 2:00pm or 6:30pm, the last show will be on Monday February 19, 2024 at 6:00pm.

Star Wars: A New Hope – In Concert

In a galaxy far, far away… Bring the fam and join the FILMharmonic Orchestra to experience a live-to-projection performance of one of the most iconic films of all time: Star Wars: A New Hope – In Concert!

Experience this Oscar®-winning score by John Williams performed live by 78 musicians of the FILMharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Francis Choinière while you watch the critically-acclaimed 1977 film on the big screen! Showings: Thursday, February 15, 2024 at 7:30pm and Friday, February 16, 2024 at 7:30pm

Disney Animation: Immersive Experience

Surround Yourself in the Worlds, Music & Stories of Disney Animation. This immersive experience starts February 15th and will be featured until April 28th 2024. Its a wonderful date for couples, friends, and families. Disney is for all ages after all!

 is an innovative celebration that will take you inside the greatest films of Walt Disney Animation Studios, from their very earliest, groundbreaking features to the beloved hit movies of today.

Family Day at the Alberta Legislature

Celebrate Family Day and experience free indoor fun at the Alberta Legislature; the place where it all began! With two engaging sites offering a variety of indoor entertainment and activities. The Legislature building features majestic architecture, story time adventures and crafting activities, while the Queen Elizabeth II building offers musical entertainment and the interactive educational Visitor Centre.

When: Monday February 19, 2024: 11 am–4 pm.

Skate and explore at the Silver Skate Festival

The Silver Skate Festival is Edmonton’s longest running winter festival. Gather the family to celebrate prairie winter life, its a great seasonal experience for all ages! This free 10-day family-oriented festival combines culture, art, education, sport, and recreation. This festival runs from February 9-19, 2024.

Bring your skates to glide along the city’s free public skating surfaces, admire the snow sculptures, enjoy live entertainment, and so much more!
