Discover the Best Spring Hiking Trails in Calgary

Spring has officially sprung and we are rearing to get back outside and enjoy the beautiful nature around us! Sometimes, simply stepping outside your own front door can be a great adventure, and Calgary is close to so many top hiking trails to take your nature-loving date on.

Whether you’re hiking with your partner, family, your squad, or going solo; we’ve got you covered.

1. Glenmore Reservoir Trail

If you’re looking for a beautiful spot to see some wildlife, this trail is perfect for you! If you’re looking for something relatively easy that will last a few hours then this is exactly what you’re looking for. You can explore the reservoir staying close to the water and wetlands.

Difficulty: Easy

Located at:  South Glenmore Park

Length: 15.3km – Approximately 3 hours and 45 minutes

2. Douglas Fir Trail

Experience nature right inside the city! This trail runs along a thick forest escarpment with cascading views of the Bow River Valley. Making it the perfect spot to take your date for a shorter and more moderate hike. You can catch the best views from “dead man’s drop” which is a must see when you visit!

Difficulty: Moderate

Located at: Edworthy Park

Length: 4.3km – Approximately 1 hour and a half

3. East Nose Hill Loop from Edgemont Blvd

This is a gorgeous and serene spot to take your next date for a longer hike. This is also a popular spot for mountain biking (so if you’re the adventurous type – take note)! You and your date will enjoy spectacular views with even better quality time with one another.

Difficulty: Moderate

Located at: Nose Hill Park

Length: 12.6km – Approximately 3 hours

4. South Glenmore Park Loop

With a gorgeous waterfront green space, you’ll have a lovely little hike here with your loved ones! There’s actually a lot to do in the park surrounding like an aquatic playground and even a sailing school! This is a great place to come with your family, allow the kids to play, then take a leisurely stroll through the trails.

Difficulty: Easy

Located at:  South Glenmore Park

Length: 5.5km – Approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes

5. Bow River Pathway: North – South Loop

This popular trail follows the Bow River where you will cross foot bridges and enjoy paved urban trails. This spot is perfect for a relaxing walk through the park where you can enjoy nature at your leisure. You can even pack a picnic, sit on a blanket, and have a romantic lunch with your date!

Difficulty: Easy

Located at: Edworthy Park

Length: 7.9km – Approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes
