Honeymooning in Canada: 5 Underrated Destinations

Planning a honeymoon? Here are 5 places we highly recommend for newlyweds!

I had no idea that proposing to my wife would lead to one of the happiest and simultaneously most stressful periods of my life. Planning a wedding is no joke. From the seating chart and budget to the countless activities leading up to your big day the experience can be a lot.

And that, my friends, is the reason why you go on a honeymoon.

A honeymoon is a time for you to leave the chaos behind and focus on being in love. When looking for a honeymoon destination, the world is literally your oyster. The pandemic, however, has made travel a little more difficult which is why I suggest staying in Canada. Canada is an incredible country with so many wondrous things to see.

I wanted to help make your life easier so I made a list of some of my favourite spots in the country.

1. Yellowknife, Northwest Territories

If you are an adventurous couple like my wife and I are, Yellowknife is a great choice. During the day, there are a slew of activities to do including ice fishing, walking tours, and even dog sledding. Not to mention the array of hotels and eateries to check out during your stay. But to me, the most special thing about this destination is the chance to see the northern lights.

From mid-November to early April, your chances of seeing the Northern Lights are much higher, which is an experience you will never forget.

If you are looking for a great hotel, check out Blanchford Lake Lodge, offers some of the best views of the Northern Lights.

2. Banff, Alberta

Banff National Park defines the term romance.

The resort town is home to incredible hiking trails, crystal clear lakes, amazing mountains, and a ton of hot springs to check out.

There are so many things to experience in Banff but one of the most romantic things to do is to take a road trip to Lake Louise, it is an adventure you will never forget.

The Fairmont Banff Springs is an obvious choice, it is classic, elegant and sexy- a great combination for a honeymoon!

3. Fogo Island, Newfoundland & Labrador

Most people have never heard of Fogo Island but it is one of the most remote destinations in Canada, so it would make for a super unique location for honeymooning in Canada. It offers a great escape from the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, which is what most people want on their honeymoon.

Fogo Island Inn would be the hotel to stay at. The rooms offer floor-to-ceiling windows that allow couples to witness spectacular views of the ocean. The Inn also houses a bar, restaurant, library, cinema, and more.

For those looking to add a little adventure to the trip, hike along the Lion’s Den Trail, it will not disappoint.

4. Quebec City, Quebec

If you are craving a European escape without actually wanting to go to Europe, Quebec City might be the answer to your problems. From the cobblestone streets and unique architecture to the fabulous restaurants and array of boutique hotels, Quebec City is a great option for a honeymoon. You can take a tour or even stay in the iconic Fairmount Le Chateau Frontenac, which is the most photographed and famous hotel in the area.

This is an ideal place to experience a romantic fairy tale vacation, at any time of the year.

5. Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia

Cape Breton Island located in Nova Scotia offers a break from city life, allowing couples to truly relax. There are various hotels and inns found in the area. Many of which offer stunning views of the ocean and the island itself. Although it is beautiful all year round, it is truly at its peak during the months of fall when the colourful foliage takes over as far as the eye can see.
