If you’ve been craving a coastal getaway that blends relaxation, comfort, and a little adventure, Oceanstone Resort & Spa in Nova Scotia should be high on your list this fall. Set along the rugged coastline of St. Margaret’s Bay, this oceanside retreat feels worlds away while still being just 40 minutes from Halifax and minutes from Peggy’s Cove.

Whether you’re flying in from across the country, planning a Nova Scotia road trip, or simply looking for somewhere to slow down for a few days, Oceanstone makes it easy to settle in, disconnect from the everyday, and let the coast set the pace.

With oceanfront cottages, boutique guest rooms and suites, a Nordic spa experience, and a recently opened restaurant, there’s plenty to keep you on property (although the surrounding coastline is pretty hard to resist!)

what welcomes you

There’s just something about arriving at Oceanstone that immediately makes you want to slow down. Rather than feeling like a traditional hotel, the resort is spread throughout the coastal landscape, with accommodations tucked into the surroundings and the ocean never feeling too far away.

The whole property has that quintessential Nova Scotia feeling with its signature rugged coastline, fresh ocean air, quiet paths, and the kind of scenery that makes you want to put your phone down for a little while.

Whether you’re checking into one of the resort’s cozy guest suites like we did, or settling into a private cottage, the experience is designed around comfort and connection to the coast. And yes, falling asleep with the sound of the ocean just beyond your door is every bit as dreamy as it sounds.

the hollyhock 3 suite

We stayed in Hollyhock 3, one of Oceanstone’s cozy suites located right next to the main lodge, and it immediately felt like our own little corner of the Nova Scotia coast.

Designed for two, the suite has everything you need for a slower, more intimate getaway, including a comfortable living space, kitchen, full bathroom, and a private deck where the ocean views really steal the show.

The best part, though? The views, of course.

Surrounded by the coast from almost every angle, it was hard not to slow down and soak in just how peaceful it felt to have the ocean right outside our door.

And then there’s the gigantic soaker tub!

A huge highlight of the suite, the tub is the perfect way to enjoy a romantic evening after a day of exploring the resort and the coast. I can truly imagine no better way to end the day than coming back to your cozy suite, drawing a bath, and having the sounds of the ocean cap off your evening.

It felt cozy, private, and quintessentially Nova Scotian… exactly what we wanted from a coastal getaway.

emphasis on wellness

THE NORDIC SPA EXPERIENCE

At the heart of Oceanstone Resort & Spa is its Nordic Spa Experience, and this is where the resort really leans into the art of slowing down.

The spa is built around a hydrothermal circuit, with guests moving between heat, cold, and rest at their own pace, surrounded by the coastline and a gentle breeze.

We worked through the full hydrotherapy circuit that Oceanstone offers: from their relaxing Vitality Pools and the North Atlantic Cold Plunge, to their invigorating Sauna, Kneipp Path and Steam Room.

The spa also offers wine, beer and thoughtful beverages, from mimosas to fresh-pressed juices, alongside a full kitchen serving a spa-forward menu packed with fresh, feel-good options. And while everything we tried was delicious, we’re genuinely still thinking about the Prosciutto Panini.

Alongside the hydrotherapy experience, Oceanstone also offers professionally delivered treatments, including relaxation-focused services such as Massage Therapy and Acupuncture.

Whether you spend a few hours at the spa or make wellness a central part of your getaway, it’s an easy way to add a little extra reset time to your Nova Scotia escape.

dinner with a coastal view

WATERMARK RESTAURANT

After a day spent exploring the coastline (or simply relaxing at the resort), Watermark Restaurant is the place to settle in for dinner.

Recently renovated, the restaurant is now Oceanstone’s signature coastal dining experience, offering a refreshed setting that feels right at home against the surrounding landscape.

The best part? You don’t have to leave the property to have a proper dinner out.

Naturally, we started the evening with a bottle of Tidal Bay, before we worked our way through the menu with a few starters to share, including the House-made Bread, Tuna Tartare, Parma Prosciutto paired with in-season peaches, and a Shrimp Cocktail before getting into the mains.

For our mains, I couldn’t resist the Lobster Roll, while the Shrimp Spaghettini was the perfect dish to round out our coastal feast.

As the sun set behind us, we finished the evening off with the Crème Brûlée, and with its coastal setting and refreshed space, Watermark was the perfect place to slow down over dinner and really lean into the Nova Scotia experience.

slow down, stay awhile

Between the oceanfront accommodations, Nordic spa, on-site dining, and easy access to Peggy’s Cove and the surrounding coastline, Oceanstone strikes that perfect balance between having plenty to do and giving you absolutely no reason to rush.

Whether you’re planning a girls’ getaway, a couples’ escape, or a Nova Scotia adventure with your favourite people, Oceanstone is the kind of place that makes the journey feel like part of the vacation.

Because sometimes the best getaway is the one where you can wake up to the ocean, spend the day exploring, and come back to somewhere that makes it easy to connect with what really matters.
