Whether you enjoy playing soccer and volleyball or more obscure games like pickleball and squash, fellow sport-lovers congregate at the Calgary Sport & Social Club (CSSC) every few months for a new season of their favourite games. Founded in 1996, the CSSC originally formed due to the growing interest in adult sports throughout the city. Their recreational leagues quickly became a communal ground for adults to come together and play the games they loved with other like-minded individuals.

As the spring season nears, the CSSC coordinates new leagues for Calgarians to participate in. Try your hand at any sport by choosing your own difficulty: recreational or recreational plus, newbies or veterans, competitive or non-competitive. The Calgary Sport & Social Club offers the following league sports during the Spring 2019 season:

  • Badminton
  • Basketball
  • Dodgeball
  • Flag Football
  • Floor Hockey
  • Kickball
  • Multi-Sport
  • Pickleball
  • Slo-Pitch
  • Soccer – Futsal, Turf, Outdoor
  • Spikeball
  • Squash
  • Tennis
  • Ultimate
  • Volleyball – Beach, Indoor, Indoor/Beach Combo
  • Wiffleball
  • Legends 35+ Leagues – Pickleball, Slo-Pitch, Floor Hockey

Whether you want to play with your friends or you want to join a mixed individuals team and meet some new faces, there are always benefits to registering early. Sign up now in an earlier tier to secure your spot in the league as well as receive a lower price. Depending on your game choice, the CSSC has varying registration cut-offs for indoor and outdoor sports:

Spring Season League Dates

Indoor Dates

  • Registration Deadline: March 27
  • Season starts: April 12

Outdoor Dates:

  • Registration Deadline: April 15
  • Season starts: April 26

Register quick as team fees will go up on March 13. If you can’t sign-up by then, be sure to register before the indoor/outdoor deadlines to secure your spot and to avoid paying a ‘Delay of Game’ fee.

Whether you’re registering in a spring league or you like sports but you’re not ready to commit to a full season, the CSSC also offers a variety of tournaments for those interested in a shorter-term commitment:

  • March 2 – Dodgeball: $47.50/individual, $270/team
  • March 9 – 3-on-3 Basketball: $50/individual, $180/team
  • March 16 – Curling: $60/individual, $225/team
  • March 23 – Sno-Pitch: $35/individual, $265/team
  • March 23 – Battle of Alberta Volleyball Tournament in Red Deer: $50/individual, $295/team

Now that we’ve described the ‘sport’ part of the CSSC’s name, let’s dive into the ‘social’ aspect. Besides providing a variety of fun and competitive sports for local Calgarians to participate in, another benefit of joining the CSSC is the countless bars it partners with. All CSSC members are eligible for food and drink discounts every day of the week, so no matter what day your game falls on, there are sponsor bars ready to help you celebrate your win or strategize for next week’s match.

“So this all sounds great, but what if we buy early and something comes up so that we can’t participate in the season?”

Refunds are available for individuals or teams up to two days prior to the registration deadline applicable to the season, should something come up and you truly can’t participate in the fun, active, sporting community.
