As the flowers start to bloom and the weather warms up, it’s got us thinking about the perfect getaways in the mountains that are just a hop, skip and jump from the hustle and bustle of Calgary.
Whether it’s a family vacation filled with testing out new skills and getting back to your favourite activities, or a romantic getaway reconnecting with each other and nature, Revelstoke, British Columbia is the ultimate mountain escape this summer – and here’s some of the (surprising) reasons why:
A Thriving Arts Scene
For a cute, little mountain town, you’d think “how much talent could really be living there?” The answer is A LOT. Not only are there 3 incredible public art galleries displaying beautiful fine art, but there is so much art displayed in this town, it’s overflowing onto the streets – literally.
Strolling through downtown Revelstoke, you’ll be completely immersed in local talent with the town’s one-of-a-kind “Art Alleries,” public art alleys that showcase dozens of stunning downtown street murals.
If you’re looking for a bit more adrenaline, don’t miss the Revelstoke Outdoor Art Movement (ROAM) at Revelstoke Mountain Resort, where old skis, bike tires and other repurposed materials are given a new life by becoming innovative art pieces that transform the mountain into a canvas.

Craft Brewing and Distilling
While the craft brewing scene in Calgary and Alberta are definitely thriving, you just can’t compete with B.C.’s 220+ craft breweries (compared to Alberta’s 147). Revelstoke is home to two of those breweries, Mt. Begbie Brewing and Rumpus Beer Company, with another innovative, small-batch brewery, Revystoked Brewing Company set to open this year.
The Monashee Spirits Craft Distillery, a family-run distillery specializing in craft-made bespoke cocktails and award-winning spirits with one of the largest whiskey collections in Canada, also serves the Revelstoke community ensuring there’s a drink for everyone in town.
Adorable Farmers Markets
Local Food Initiative Markets, Revelstoke’s year-round initiative to support local producers and make access to local goods easier for the community, has been hosting the cutest markets since 2017, and you can stop by every Saturday from 8:00am to 1:00pm.
Hosting both regular and pop-up vendors, there will always be something new to discover at this Summer Market on First St. East in front of the Regent Hotel, between MacKenzie and McArthur Ave.
All the Water Sports
Of course, B.C. is an adventure playground known globally for its stunning terrain and endless opportunity for outdoor activities (including water activities) and Revelstoke is no exception! Go for a swim in Williamson Lake, get some sun with a day of paddleboarding on Lake Revelstoke, drift down the Columbia River in a canoe, or go for an adrenaline-filled whitewater ride down the Illecillewaet River.
Whether you’re looking for some zen or to get your heart rate up, Revelstoke is the place for you, with the Revy Paddle Fest taking place on August 15-17, 2025, offering three days of kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding races, paddling clinics, live music, art, and family fun while promoting water and environmental stewardship in the community.
