It’s that time of year again, Calgary: NHL playoffs! With a phenomenal season, the Calgary Flames secured the top seed in the Western Division and will play the first three rounds of games in Calgary – if they’re lucky enough to make it this far! Bar owners along 17th Avenue are excited for the team to reignite the Red Mile, encouraging fans to experience the game with hundreds of other Calgarians throughout the city’s streets.
For the third time this spring, construction has restarted on Calgary’s 17th Avenue. In just two short months this past winter, 29 businesses closed on the avenue, many owners blaming the constant construction and rising property tax. The City of Calgary has decided to postpone construction on the avenue until after the playoffs run, making the area more accessible to all Calgarians. With at least one round of playoff games secured for the Calgary Flames, local pub and bar owners are hoping to get more Calgarians out of the house and down to watch the game with other local, rowdy fans.
