Still making plans for Halloween this year? You know we’ve got you covered. From the 13th and final year of Screamfest to a Murder Mystery Dinner, here are the top things to do this Halloween in YYC.


Screamfest

Come venture through themed haunted houses at one of Calgary’s most beloved Halloween attractions. With themes like Clown Town, Reapers and Grimm, Bates Motel and Walking With the Dead, there’s plenty to check out to keep you in suspense all night long. There is also an escape room, a simulator ride, coffin ride, carnival games, and, new this year, an Extreme Zombie House where actors will brush up against you for an extra scare – if you dare.

Aspen Crossing’s Train of Terror

All aboard the Train of Terror at Aspen Crossing. This spooky moving train spectacle is a Halloween must-do for any of those brave enough. Check in at the spooky train station then make your way to the boarding platform. Along the way, you’ll encounter a uniquely haunted maze, sinister photo-ops and creatures lurking in fog and hiding in every corner. Once the train departs, you’ll be transported to an extreme haunt that will include intense audio and lighting, low visibility, strobe and fog effects, tight spaces, graphic scenes and close contacts with actors and props. If you brave it out, you’ll find a Halloween party with food and drinks for purchase on the other side of your ride.

Welcome to Calgary’s newest haunted attraction. This year at WinSport, experience over 7,000 square feet of terror as you get immersed in the legend of Professor Grim. Offering three separate haunted houses, a 3D haunted house called Grim’s Haunted Adventures, a Salem-themed funhouse, live music and performances, this is a Halloween event you’re sure to remember. Performances will be by comedy daredevil Ryan Stock and his partner Amberlynn, previously seen on America’s Got Talent.

The Ghosts of Fish Creek Walking Tour

Slip on your best costume and bring your date over to Fish Creek Provincial Park for The Ghosts of Fish Creek Walking Tour. During this hour-long tour, you’ll venture through the historic Bow Valley Ranche area of Fish Creek Provincial Park and learn about the ghosts that are rumoured to haunt here. Bring your travel mugs along to sip on the delicious hot chocolate being served. This tour is great for all ages and most levels of mobility and funds raised will go directly towards the Friends of Fish Creek Provincial Park Society.

Murder Mystery Dinner at Bow Valley Ranche

Get dressed up in costume for this Murder Mystery Dinner. Bow Valley Ranche Restaurant will be converting their Grand Salon to a theatre banquet for the evening. Enjoy a complimentary beverage upon arrival, a 3-course dinner and a ‘whodunit’ style show. The menu features a baked cavetelli, duck breast and a red velvet cupcake. Expect to get cozy with your neighbours as seating happens in long, shared tables of ten to twelve guests.

Are you ready for 10,000 square feet of scares? One of Calgary’s largest and spookiest walk-through haunted yard attractions, Haunted Calgary, is back this month with the theme of “Hollywood Horror.” They aim to be the scariest haunted attraction you’ll see so use your discretion for this event. Actors are likely to jump out from every corner of the attraction when you least expect it. Proceeds will go towards supporting the Calgary Animal Rescue Society and the Calgary Food Bank.

TELUS Spark will be transformed into a mad science lab of horror on October 27th for this adults-only party. Dress up in your Halloween costumes, grab your ghoulish gang and party it up in this anything-but-ordinary science centre experience. There will be music from DJ Joanna Magik, a silent disco dance party, delicious food, a classic “Thriller” dance lesson, plenty of photo ops and full access to their galleries.

12 Hour Halloween Movie Marathon

If you love scary movies, then this event is for you. The Calgary Underground Film Festival will be showing scary movies for 12 hours straight – that means 7 movies from 7pm until 7am the next day. Come for one, come for them all, or drop in and out – the choice is yours. They’ll have a costume contest at midnight as well as giveaways and surprises throughout the night. Alcohol will be served until 2am and if you make it ‘til the last hour, they’ll even serve you a free breakfast.

Partake in a frightfully delicious three-course meal in the historic Wainwright Hotel at Heritage Park. Between the courses, you’ll hear spooky ghost stories guaranteed to add an extra thrill to your night. After dinner, head outside for a 90 minute ghost tour that will have you experiencing the deserted historical village after hours. Listen to mysterious tales about strange happenings in the park and have a first-hand look at two of the most haunted sites (an experience reserved only for Ghost and Gourmet guests). The stories told are all based on personal encounters from staff and guests.

Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre: I Know What You Did Last Halloween

Spend your Halloween evening getting spooked at this Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre hosted by Fort Calgary. This year’s story will see a quiet community try to lure actor Johnny Depp to star in a sequel to “Sleepy Hollow.” As the story progresses, jealousies flare, old romances resurface and the town people learn that sometimes, ambitions are paid for in blood. Interact with the actors and take your best guess at who the culprit behind the crime was all while enjoying a delicious locally sourced dinner buffet.
