Create your Ultimate Vancouver Summer Bucket List

It’s no secret that Vancouver is one of the most beautiful places to be once summer time hits and we’re out of the rainy season (better enjoy it for as long as it lasts!). From exploring fun summer markets, to kayaking or hiking in and around the city, we’ve curated a wide variety of activities to add to your bucket list of things to do to make sure you have your best summer yet.

Visit a summer night market to taste local flavours

Grab your friends, partner, family and even pets and attend some of the summer night markets going on in the city.

Open every weekend until mid-October, Richmond Night Market is a hugely popular and diverse Asian market with lots of authentic food (from all cultures), a variety of shopping, and a fun, festive atmosphere.

There’s also the Shipyards Night Market that’s hosted every Friday night until mid-October in North Vancouver and is free to attend.

Catch an outdoor movie at the Twilight Drive-In Theatre

Visit Metro Vancouver’s only drive-in theatre, in their last year before it officially closes. A summertime staple, the Twilight Drive-in Movie Theatre is exactly what you’d expect, a chance to watch a popular movie in the comfort of your own car, or you could also bring your own chairs to sit outside of your car.

If you’ve never been to the drive-in before, here’s how it works:

  • The movie’s audio is broadcasted on FM radio
  • It’s up to you to watch the show from the front or back of your vehicle, or in lawn chairs.
  • Hit up the concession stand for your favourite movie snacks, or bring your own!

Wander around the town of Steveston and eat fish & chips

Richmond’s got your fish and chips cravings covered! Spend a day exploring the charming neighbourhood of Steveston with its various local vendors, waterfront settings and amazing fish and chips for lunch.

There’s different places to choose from, however, Dave’s Fish & Chips and Pajo’s Fish & Chips have been leading contenders for years now.

Hit up a hike on one of our many nature trails

If you’re going to experience summertime in Vancouver properly, then hiking one of the mountain trails is a must. And the best part? There’s plenty of trails you can access without needing a car.

Whether it’s taking on a harder hike like the Grouse Grind, or enjoying an easier one like the Lynn Canyon Park, get ready to walk through some incredible sites and panoramic views you won’t find anywhere else.

Take a ferry to one of the nearby islands

A day trip or a weekend trip to a nearby island sounds like a great escape from the hustle and bustle of the city! The good news is that with BC Ferries there’s loads of options. If you’re looking to have a shorter day you can head to Bowen Island, a 20 minute ferry ride only!

There’s also longer rides to either the Sunshine Coast, Victoria or more! It all depends on what you’re looking to do for the weekend. Find the whole list of ferry locations and schedules here.

Party it up at the PNE for Summer Night Concerts

The PNE is THE place to be to enjoy live music performances this summer. When the sun goes down at the PNE fair, the lights come on at the Chevrolet stage, and you can check out some of your favorite artists performing live.

This year’s list of performers include iconic artists across genres and eras, from rock, to pop, to country, to Punjabi folk music. Learn more about it here.

Kayak in Deep Cove

Ever dreamed of kayaking and being surrounded by mountains and green landscapes? Here’s your chance! Deep Cove offers multi hour kayaking experiences where you get to bask in this peaceful nature environment for as long as your heart desires.

While you’re there, treat yourself to Honey’s Donuts, a locally famous donut shop, before or after your adventure.

Have a fun beach day

Visit one of many beaches in and around the city for a fun and more relaxing beach day with your friends. Pack up a picnic, bring a volleyball and a good book, and make your way to English Bay, Sunset Beach, Jericho Beach, the list is endless!
