From Dinner and a Movie to Fluid Fest, here’s what’s up this week in YYC.

1. Dinner & A Movie
October 16th from 5pm-10pm

Dinner and a movie with a twist. Bring your date to Heritage Park as they welcome back this popular event. First, dine on a movie-themed, three-course dinner at the Selkirk Grille before heading over to Gasoline Alley Museum where you’ll watch a classic flick on the big screen. The movie airing this month, in theme with Halloween, is Hocus Pocus. Don’t worry – they’ve got a cash bar and popcorn for you to purchase in case you suddenly get a craving or two.


2. Restaurants for Change

Plan your date night for a good cause on October 17th. That’s when Restaurants for Change happens – a night where 75+ restaurants around Canada are donating proceeds from their dinner sales to support local healthy food programs. 13 restaurants in YYC have confirmed their participation including Alforno Bakery & Cafe, CHARCUT Roast House, Foreign Concept, Teatro Ristorante and more.

3. Dave Kelly Live’s Season Opener

Join host Dave Kelly as he opens Season 4 of his show at a new venue – the Bella Concert Hall. Packed with performances, conversations, stories, music and anything else that makes Dave laugh, this show will be focused on the theme of Calgary. Take a look at what we love about Calgary and the people who make this city our home. 

4. Alberta Spotlight: Cartel Madras

Join the National Music Centre for an unforgettable night of epic music at the historic King Eddy. They’ll be presenting Cartel Madras, a radical hip hop crew made up of Contra and Eboshi, two female Indian rappers, and DJ Egglad. Their sound fuses the stylings of Dirty South rap, house and trap to bring an energy that is femme, sexy and uncompromisingly aggressive.

5. Fluid Fest
October 18th – November 3rd at Various Times

From October 18th to November 3rd, Calgary is welcoming back the annual Fluid Fest. This three week festival brings artists and audiences together with contemporary art, dance and physical performance. Events will be held at both cSPACE and DJD Dance Centre and include a physical therapy cabaret, an art party, spoken dialogue and other workshops.
