From Music of the Movies to Sin & Gin Soiree Cabaret, here’s what’s up this weekend in YYC.


1. Music of the Movies
January 18th and 19th at 730pm

Delight in the music of the movies. Conducted by Sarah Hicks, this performance will be a tribute to great film scores set from the 1950’s until today. Hear from favourites like SupermanInterstellarThe Lion KingPirates of the CaribbeanTitanicStar Wars, and more.

2. Calgary Babes Who Brunch

CEO + Founder of The Ace Class and It’s Date Night, Mandy Balak, is the January Babes Who Brunch speaker. This boss babe is a dreamer and a big thinker who has started three businesses, and is leading a movement to empower women by appreciating the successes of fellow females, and creating a space where women can grow and thrive together. This brunch marks The Ace Class’s 2nd Anniversary – and to celebrate, they’re bringing back the first ever brunch speaker, Michelle Berg of Elevated HR, to host the special occasion.

3. The Bash

4. Alberta Spotlight: Karella
January 19th at 8pm

The National Music Centre presents Edmonton soul-soca singer Karella on January 19th as part of their Alberta Spotlight series. Karella, a DJ, producer, singer, and actress originally from Trinidad and now based in Edmonton will whisk you away with her sheer talent. Her music and vocals will launch you into a midwinter dance party as she heats up the legendary King Eddy stage.


5. Sin & Gin Soiree Cabaret: Chinook Shakedown

January 20th from 7pm-930pm
Mikey’s on 12th, 918 12 Ave SW

Sin & Gin is back with another night of music, comedy, dance, cabaret, and burlesque. Join them as they ring in the new year with a Chinook Shakedown. Get your tickets in advance online for $12 – they’ll be more expensive at the door.
