Downtown Calgary is getting ready for it’s glow up and we can’t wait to be a part of it. If you’re like us, you’re probably having major Christmas lights withdrawal now that people are starting to take down their gorgeous lights and decorations that lit up the streets. There is nothing more romantic than walking through the lights, admiring their beauty on a snowy evening. You don’t have to wait until next November to get a glimpse of the lights again, glow: Downtown Winter Light Festival is happening from February 14-18 5pm-11pm every night downtown put on by The Calgary Downtown Association.
This free event is perfect for date night, girls night out or family-friendly bonding time. All ages are welcome to warm up winter’s darkest days and experience the coolest, one-of-a-kind interactive light displays. There will also be entertainment, food trucks and activations for you to explore.
Each night you’ll be amazed by the plethora of twinkling lights and the fun, engaging and amazing activities that glow has to offer. Choose your favourite or head downtown for all of them.
February 14: Love Lights. The stage is set for the perfect Valentine’s Day date and you don’t even have to do anything except show up with your boo. Take bae or your bestie down to Olympic Plaza between 5-10pm to make and design a “Love Light” and place it in Olympic plaza to be apart of a large scale light installation.
February 15: MakeFashion. Join us for an amazing night of “Hacking the runway: high tech meets high fashion” from 7-10pm at Brookfield Plaza. MakeFashion explores the potential of merging fashion with cutting-edge electronics. MakeFashion Edu is their STEAM platform for students to introduce them to cutting edge new technologies: fusing high-tech and fashion on the runway. You don’t want to miss this unique fashion show making Canadian history as the first of its kind.
February 16: BassBus Presents: Nightlife. Head down to Olympic Plaza between 5-10pm where BassBus will transform Olympic Plaza into a bioluminescent world of glowing jellyfish and pulsing waves of light, with a musical backdrop curated by cutting edge DJs and stage performers.
February 17: glow Live! The stage at Olympic Plaza will be the stage for some of your favourite local artists including Michael Bernard Fitzgerald, JJ Shiplett, The Static Shift (as seen on Ctv’s the Launch) and Brad Saunders. Bring your squad, your date or you fam to jam out to these amazing local musicians between 5-10pm.
February 18: Family Day Skate. Bring your whole family down to Olympic Plaza with your skates to enjoy a fun filled day on the ice. There will be music, games and prizes for all ages to enjoy. It is free and everyone is welcome.
