Nestled in the vibrant Financial District of downtown Los Angeles, Hotel Per La offers a blend of historical charm and modern luxury, making it an ideal spot for couples seeking a romantic getaway or young professionals looking for a stylish staycation.
We had the opportunity to stay at Hotel Per La for our first time visiting the core of downtown L.A., and it was the perfect way to explore things like a tourist and a local at the same time! By this we mean you have access to attractions, popular photo spots, and classic L.A. destinations right outside your door if you want to explore, or if you’ve been there, done that, the hotel itself is such a stunning place to hang out and re-charge during a staycation.
Honestly, we were blown away at this hotel for both its function, location, and how aesthetic everything was… I mean, that seriously does not go unnoticed in this day and age.
this hotel makes history trendy
Housed in the former Giannini Building, originally the Bank of Italy headquarters built in 1922, Hotel Per La retains its neoclassical architecture with Doric columns, ornate golden ceilings, and marble floors that you really get the whole view of when you’re looking at Ristorante Per L’Ora, the hotel’s on-site restaurant.

Even with the rich history and Italian influences giving it a classic look, the entrance leads guests through an incredibly trendy and Instagrammable mini lobby, through a mirrored tunnel that’s lit PERFECTLY for selfies, into a swanky and modern check-in and concierge lobby, seamlessly blending vintage elements with contemporary aesthetics.

get comfy in your stylish room
The Studio Suite adorned with a King Bed is where we called home for a couple of nights and offers a thoughtfully designed space featuring a gallery wall behind the bed (a personal favourite style feature) and unique furniture pieces that stand out from standard hotel decor from the entrance to the lighting and even side tables.

A freestanding bathtub positioned by the window, in a separate room behind the bedroom/sitting area of the suit adds a touch of luxury and separates itself from the shower and toilet area and gives a bathroom size that we barely ever see in any downtown city.

Also, incredibly worth noting; the room remains surprisingly quiet despite its downtown location. There’s no shortage of cars revving their engines and the occasional shouting on L.A. streets and waking up, we were shocked to realize we didn’t notice any of it through the night – making for an amazing sleep.
get impressed at ristorante per l’ora
Located on the ground floor and accessible to guests not staying at the hotel, Ristorante Per L’Ora serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner in a vast and beautifully designed space.
You’ll fine easy-going Italian light bites and dishes mixed with a fusion of contemporary American items and delicious beverages to complement it all.

During breakfast (or brunch for our stay specifically), the Banana Foster Pancakes were absolutely to die for and came in a portion perfect for sharing. They included dark rum, bananas, and were topped with mascarpone whipped cream. If your brunch date has a sweet tooth, split this!
Was also incredibly impressed at the Avocado Toast with their generous portions and high-quality ingredients. The restaurant’s ambiance and service elevate it beyond typical hotel dining, making it a recommended spot even for those not staying at the hotel.

For grab and go bites as well as coffee and other café drinks, Café Ora provides a chic setting with chandeliers and contrasting colours that carries on the photo-opp worthy design of the hotel. It’s a great spot for a quick bite or a casual work session, though seating is limited.

rooftop drinks by the water at bar clara
Bar Clara, the hotel’s rooftop bar and pool area, offers stunning views of the L.A. skyline that you can enjoy while dining in their restaurant area, sipping on cocktails by the poolside couches and cabanas, or taking a dip!
While the pool is a highlight during warmer months, guests can enjoy lounging in cabanas and sipping on expertly crafted cocktails. Bar Clara is accessible to non-hotel guests through day pass reservations, making it a popular summer destination.
Going with a whole group? You have to reserve a cabana for the ultimate day of luxury in the sun!

location, location, location
Situated on Olive Street, Hotel Per La‘s location is perfect for exploring downtown LA and all it has to offer whether you’re locking in for the work day, or letting loose after 5pm.
Guests can walk to nearby attractions like Grand Central Market for diverse food options, the historic City Hall and surrounding area, and just a short drive or Uber away is Echo Park for a leisurely afternoon.
The hotel’s proximity to various bars, rooftops, and cultural sites makes it convenient for both tourists and locals!

Hotel Per La is perfect for romantic couples taking a weekend or anniversary getaway, young professionals in the heart of downtown to play just as hard as they work, and solo travellers seeking a stylish and comfortable staycation to recharg.
