When The Bear aired on FX, it was a small Torontonian victory to see Matty Matheson, Canadian chef and restauranteur on the cast list repping our city and growing into a smash-hit celebrity. Have you been watching? If not, first of all, why? Second of all, you don’t need to delve into the show to appreciate the good eats that The Bear holds in such high importance!

So, check out the real life places that Neil Fak… we mean Matty Matheson has had a huge hand in opening and creating the menus for!

1. Matty’s Patty’s

Where: 923a Queen St W, Toronto

Matty’s Patty’s Burger club is one of the top smashburger spots in Toronto, offering a small but mighty menu of meaty, saucy burgers.

Co-founder Matty Matheson has his namesake assigned to this spot and a feature menu item: ‘The Matty’, a cheeseburger with one 7oz 100% AAA Beef patty, mustard sauce, American cheese, sliced white onion & pickles on a sesame seed milk bun.

You can also order single, double, or triple-patty burgers with 100% AAA Beef or an Impossible patty along with their selection of sides: fries, chili cheese fries, and onion rings.

2. Prime Seafood Palace

Where: 944 Queen St W, Toronto

Prime Seafood Palace is a modern steakhouse offering a selection of beef, seafood, and vegetables all sourced from purveyors the team loves and values. The Bear’s values to quality, precision, and sourcing close-to-home ingredients really shine through in Prime Seafood Palace’s vibe.

This restaurant is definitely on the fine dining and high-end side of the scale, with a lavish menu of seafood towers, steaks, champa[i]gne (because of the price), and caviar.

3. Cà Phê Rang

Where: 147 Spadina Ave. Unit 109, Toronto

Matty opened this spot with his mentor, Chef Rang. They transformed their former Birria Balam restaurant into a cute Vietnamese eatery serving up banh mi’s, pho, and more.

“Chef Rang showed Matty the way and the rest is history. From that moment on Matty knew that bánh mì is the greatest sandwich of all time!”

4. Maker Pizza

Locations: Toronto – 59 Cameron St / 995 Bloor St W. / 105A-388 Carlaw Ave / 1537 Avenue Rd / 1674 Bayview Ave. Thornhill – 8020 Bathurst St

Matty Matheson co-founded Maker Pizza in 2015 and since then, they’ve been known for their epic pies and intense passion for the pizza game. Popping up in numerous locations in Toronto, North York, and beyond the city, pizza lovers are constantly awaiting the next Maker location.

Some famous Maker flavours include Dr. Pepperoni, Frank’s Best, and their specials like a Big Mac-inspired pie.

5. Rizzo’s House of Parm

Where: 2 Ridgeway Rd, Ridgeway, ON

Think red checkered table clothes, tons of red sauce, Nonna’s Sunday chicken parmesan, and messy spaghetti in a classic Italian diner. This is the vibe you’re getting at Crystal Beach’s (Fort Erie, Niagara) Rizzo’s House of Parm.

You can find a few menu items named after Matty Matheson himself, including:

Matty’s Salad – a Gem salad with celery, olives, red onion, oil & vinegar

Matty’s Sausage & Peppers -Grilled, with mild and hots

Matty’s Tagliatelle Bolognese – beef, veal, & pork
