For over a century, MICHELIN has been the food world’s benchmark to the best restaurants, now offering a wider scope of picks than ever before! Last year, Toronto saw two new restaurants receiving One Star, four new Bib Gourmands, and two new Green Stars.

This year, the tire company turned culinary kingmaker added four new One Star designations, bringing Toronto’s total of starred establishments to 16. Four new Bib Gourmands, and one new Green Star were also added to the third edition of the 2024 MICHELIN Guide Toronto & Region.

Gastronomy lovers will notice that the usual ‘MICHELIN Guide Toronto’ has been updated to include ‘and region’, making this year the first time the guide will feature selections from beyond Toronto, highlighting the breadth and diversity of the region’s culinary ecosystem in places like Niagara, Oakville and Hamilton.

One Star

A One Star designation means the restaurant is considered “very good in its category” having a quality menu and prepares cuisine to a consistently high standard. The four restaurants in Toronto and beyond the GTA that received One Star include:

DaNico

where: 440 College St, Toronto

Nestled in the historic landmark bank building in the heart of the Palmerston-Little Italy neighbourhood and created in partnership between Liberty Entertainment Group, Don Alfonso and Executive Chef Daniele Corona. DaNico offers the modern Italian culinary traditions accompanied by exceptional service and uniquely bespoke design.

The Pine

where: 7535 County Rd 9, Creemore

A new restaurant in Creemore from husband-and-wife team Jeremy and Cassie Austin, with a menu inspired by Jeremy’s travels in Italy, Hong Kong and China.

Hexagon

where: 210 Lakeshore Rd E, Oakville

Head here for chef Rafael Covarrubias’s contemporary French dishes. Located in the heart of historic downtown Oakville, Hexagon is a fine dining restaurant offering both tasting menu and a la carte for dinner. To complement, a well curated wine list & genuine hospitality.

Pearl Morissette

where: 3953 Jordan Rd, Jordan Station

Chef Daniel Hadida and Eric Robertson’s impress with this micro-seasonal farm-to-table tasting-menu restaurant in Jordan Station, offering an immersive destination dining experience in the heart of agriculture.

Previous One Stars include Restaurant 20 Victoria, Kappo Satto, Aburi HanaAloDon Alfonso 1890EdulisEnigma YorkvilleFriluKaiseki Yu-zen HashimotoOsteria Giulia, and Quetzal.

Bib Gourmands

This designation looks for best-value-for-money restaurants and four were added to the Guide this year, bringing Toronto’s Bib Gourmand total to 23. They are:

Conejo Negro, a buzzy new spot in Little Italy for Creole and Cajun cuisine.

Rasa, Harbord Village’s more casual sister restaurant to King & Portland’s Sara.

Guru Lukshmi, a fast-casual kitchen for South Indian dishes in a Mississauga plaza.

Berkeley North, for California-inspired cuisine in downtown Hamilton.

Previous Bib Gourmands include BB’s, Sunnys Chinese, Tiflisi, White Lily Diner, Bar Raval, Enoteca Sociale, and Favourites Thai BBQ, to name a few.

Green Star

The MICHELIN Green Star is an annual award which highlights restaurants at the forefront of the industry when it comes to their sustainable practices.

This year, Pearl Morissette, which also was awarded a One Star designation, was also added to this category.

Toronto & Region now holds two Green Star restaurants, with White Lily Diner being previously awarded this designation in 2023. [Frilu was also awarded a Green Star but has since closed].

Two Stars

The only restaurant that has a previous Two Stars on the MICHELIN Guide in Toronto is Sushi Masaki Saito. This designation means the restaurant has excellent cuisine delivered in a unique way, and has something exceptional to offer — it’s “worth a detour” to visit while traveling.

No new restaurants were awarded Two Stars this year.

MICHELIN Recommended

MICHELIN Recommended means a restaurant has been recognized by the MICHELIN Guide for serving food to a high level but hasn’t yet been awarded.
