What lies ahead this year for Toronto’s theatre landscape is a captivating season that seems back in full swing! Mirvish Productions is bringing so many classic and new works centre stage to the city’s entertainment district and we couldn’t be more excited for a year of supporting the arts through fun and unique date nights out!

Looking for a date idea that’s something different than your ordinary dinner and drinks? Immerse yourself in the incredible talent Toronto’s venues have to offer. When it comes to Mirvish Productions, they own and operate four of the major downtown Toronto theatres where you can find these productions including

  • Toronto’s historic Royal Alexandra Theatre,
  • the Princess of Wales Theatre,
  • the CAA Ed Mirvish Theatre, and
  • The CAA Theatre (formerly the Panasonic Theatre).

There’s nothing quite like a date night at the theatre! Here’s what you can expect coming to our stages this year.

42nd Street: Until January 21

Venue: Princess of Wales Theatre

42nd STREET is a timeless and inspiring showbiz fairy tale that combines breathtaking tap dance routines, backstage intrigue, classic romance and delightful comedy to dazzling effect. It’s simply irresistible!

‘Fresh off the bus from small-town America, young and beautiful Peggy Sawyer arrives in New York City dreaming of her name in lights. She quickly catches the eye of a big-time director and lands a spot in the chorus line of Broadway’s newest show… and when the leading lady gets injured, Peggy gets her shot at stardom.’

Pride & Prejudice (Sort Of): Until January 21

Venue: CAA Theatre

Pride and Prejudice* (*sort of) is a unique and audacious retelling of Jane Austen’s most iconic love story.

Men, money and microphones will be fought over in this irreverent but affectionate adaptation where the stakes couldn’t be higher when it comes to romance.

SIX The Musical: Until March 31

Venue: Royal Alexandra Theatre

From Tudor Queens to Pop Icons, the SIX wives of Henry VIII take the microphone to remix five hundred years of historical heartbreak into a Euphoric Celebration of 21st century girl power! This new original musical is the global sensation that everyone is losing their head over!

National Ballet of Ukraine: January 24 – 27

Venue: CAA Ed Mirvish Theatre

This once-in-a-lifetime performance, Nadiya Ukraine, by the world-renowned National Ballet of Ukraine from the Taras Shevchenko National Opera House features excerpts from some of the world’s greatest ballets such as “Le Corsaire”, and “Don Quixote”, while highlighting Ukrainian culture through traditional dance. 

Book of Mormon: January 24 – February 11

Venue: Princess of Wales Theatre

This outrageous musical comedy follows the adventures of a mismatched pair of missionaries, sent halfway across the world to spread the Good Word. With standing room only productions in London, on Broadway, and across North America, THE BOOK OF MORMON has truly become an international sensation.

Uncle Vanya: February 2-25

Venue: CAA Theatre

In the waning days of Czarist Russia, Ivan “Vanya” Voinitsky, and his niece, Sonya, toil ceaselessly to run their family estate. After retiring, Sonya’s father, a celebrated professor, returns to the estate with his young, glamorous wife. When he announces his plans to sell the land and evict them all, passions explode and lives come undone.

A dazzling cast breathes new life into Chekhov’s masterpiece in a new adaptation by Liisa Repo-Martell. Brimming with emotional intensity, comedic genius, and tragic weight, this Crow’s Theatre commission and world-premiere adaptation provides an up-close encounter with a classic of world drama that every theatre lover must see.

Aladdin: February 15 – March 17

Venue: Princess of Wales Theatre

Discover a whole new world at Disney’s Aladdin, the hit Broadway musical. From the producer of The Lion King comes the timeless story of Aladdin, a thrilling new production filled with unforgettable beauty, magic, comedy and breathtaking spectacle. It’s an extraordinary theatrical event where one lamp and three wishes make the possibilities infinite.

Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead: March 5-April 6

Venue: CAA Theatre

Hamlet is turned topsy-turvy in this brilliant modern comedic masterpiece that thrusts Shakespeare’s two minor characters to the forefront with no rules except one: they are destined to die. Reality and illusion mix as bewildered Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are trapped in a universe where their lives are left to chance with the flip of a coin. Can our hapless protagonists triumph in a battle of wits, escape their fate, and make sense of a senseless world?

Starring from the Oscar-winning The Lord of the Rings trilogy, the title roles of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern (or perhaps Guildenstern and Rosencrantz?) are Billy Boyd (Pippin) and Dominic Monaghan (Merry) in this unique and stunning new production created by Halifax’s Neptune Theatre.

STOMP: March 19-24

Venue: Princess of Wales Theatre

STOMP is explosive, provocative, sophisticated, sexy, utterly unique and appeals to audiences of all ages. The return of the percussive hit also brings some new surprises, with some sections of the show now updated and restructured and the addition of two new full-scale routines, utilizing props like tractor tire inner tubes and paint cans.

Les Miserables: March 26 – June 1

Venue: Princess of Wales Theatre

Cameron Mackintosh presents the acclaimed production of Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg’s Tony Award-winning musical phenomenon, Les Misérables.

Set against the backdrop of 19th century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption – a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. This epic and uplifting story has become one of the most celebrated musicals in theatrical history.

HYPROV (Improv Under Hypnosis): April 9-14

Venue: CAA Theatre

The 90-minute show combines hypnosis and improv–two art forms that have mystified and entertained fans, skeptics and everyone in between worldwide–for a totally unique comedy experience. The evening begins with Mecci welcoming 20 volunteers on stage to be hypnotized. The most receptive to hypnosis then join Mochrie to improvise the rest of the show, while hypnotized. In the hands of two experts–and solely crafted from the volunteers’ uninhibited, unconscious minds–each show is an entirely original and completely unforgettable theatrical experience.

HADESTOWN: May 15-26

Venue: CAA Ed Mirvish Theatre

Hadestown intertwines two mythic tales — that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone — as it invites you on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back. Mitchell’s beguiling melodies and Chavkin’s poetic imagination pit industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love. Performed by a vibrant ensemble of actors, dancers and singers, Hadestown is a haunting and hopeful theatrical experience that grabs you and never lets go.

Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird: May 28 – June 2

Venue: CAA Ed Mirvish Theatre

The iconic and history-making book and now Broadway production from Academy Award winner Aaron Sorkin is making its way to Toronto! The New York Times Critic’s Pick To Kill a Mockingbird  is “the most successful American play in Broadway history.”

WICKED: June 5 – July 21

Venue: Princess of Wales Theatre

WICKED, the Broadway sensation, looks at what happened in the Land of Oz…but from a different angle. Long before Dorothy arrives, there is another young woman, born with emerald green skin—smart, fiery, misunderstood, and possessing an extraordinary talent. When she meets a bubbly blonde who is exceptionally popular, their initial rivalry turns into the unlikeliest of friendships…until the world decides to call one “good,” and the other one “wicked.”

From the first electrifying note to the final breathtaking moment, WICKED—the untold true story of the Witches of Oz—transfixes audiences with its wildly inventive story.

The Tina Turner Musical: June 18 – July 28

Venue: CAA Ed Mirvish Theatre

Shrek The Musical: August 6-18

Venue: Princess of Wales Theatre

An all-new version of Shrek The Musical is about to embark on a cross-country national tour that includes a stop at Toronto’s Princess of Wales Theatre from August 6 – 18, 2024.  You can expect a SHREK that feels both familiar and refreshingly new, inviting everyone to “fall in love all ogre again.”

Kimberly Akimbo Tony Award-winning duo Jeanine Tesori (music) and David Lindsay-Abaire (book) revisit their first collaboration to deliver a more intimate and engaging experience – a joyful, colorful SHREK that leans into the humanity in all of us that celebrates our differences. With all-new original direction and choreography by Danny Mefford (Choreographer, Dear Evan Hansen)this reimagined production of SHREK THE MUSICAL brings the show back to its roots – giving it a new kind of love emphasizing the importance of loving ourselves and one another.

Rumours of Fleetwood Mac Live in Concert: August 20 – 24
