Get Back to Basics at this Treehouse Airbnb near Muskoka

You can find this 1893-inspired treehouse rental in somewhat of an Ontario glamping forest. Host Jarret Kennedy now has three cabins and an art gallery at this unique and dreamy Minett, Ontario spot. Disconnect from the city and reconnect with nature, and your favourite person, at reTreet.

Getting there

On the way to reTreet, you find yourself driving down a long backroad that’s barely paved. Just when you think you’ve driven as far into the forest as possible, you’re there. The whole property is dedicated to off-the-grid serenity where the accommodations and amenities are anything less than magical.

Finally, when you arrive at the parking area and embark on your reTreet adventure, you’ll see a wooden sign that acts as the only directions you need during your stay:

Art Gallery has artwork created by the on-site artist Melissa Thompson.

It’s a short walk from the parking area to the treehouse, couldn’t be more than 2-3 minutes. On your way, you’ll see the A-Frame Cottage, the sauna area (to the right), a few other cabins along the wooded trail, then finally the treehouse. Nestled 14 feet above ground with hammocks just underneath, you’ll feel like you’re in your own world at a nature-lovers playground.

A healthy staircase up to your home for the night will reveal pretty grey modern interiors that’s the perfect size to settle down for the night and go to bed. With so much nature, being inside really isn’t where you’re spending the majority of your time but it’s a cozy and clean interior when you are in there.

Up a spiral staircase will reveal the loft for sleeping that has a surprisingly comfortable foam mattress in it’s own little nook, no need to feel claustrophobic in here.

Staying at reTreet is truly unplugging and getting back to basics. It starts to feel like home instantly, even though all you have is a fire, outhouse, a couple hammocks, and the beauty of nature.

In the spirit of glamping, we decided to make dinner over the fire pit and we highly recommend recreating these naan pizzas that are easy to pack and assemble for these off-the-grid stays.

All you need is for these Campfire Naan Pizzas is:

  • Medium-sized naan (we like the herbs and garlic option!)
  • Small can of tomato sauce/pizza sauce
  • Mozzarella cheese (bring already shredded if possible)
  • Toppings (we chose proscuitto, but cut-up veggies, pepperoni, or really anything works here!)
  • Aluminum Foil

Glamping date tip: Bringing pre-portioned ingredients is a huge life saver when packing for camping dinners. !

Part of the experience is everything the location offers, too. Take nature hikes across the 12 acres of forest and bedrock then relax in the wood-burning barrel sauna and forget all about the stresses of modern life.

So how off-the-grid is it?

The treehouse is completely off grid (no running water or electricity) with a solar light and candles acting as the main source of lighting. There is water located inside the barrel sauna that is used for rinsing off/ showering if needed. There’s a propane coffee maker and grill for cooking, too. And for when nature calls, there’s a composting toilet located in the outhouse.

Your own personal treehouse playground during your stay.
