It’s pumpkin spice everything season which means the leaves are changing colour and the temperature has dropped right off. It feels like we might have missed Fall altogether and just jumped head first into winter. Any “I’ll start running in the Fall” plans have been crushed and that cozy sweater look has become straight up winter jackets and toques. Despite the cold outside, things are heating up inside and there is no time like right now to shake up your fitness routine.
Winter league registration for the Calgary Sport & Social Club opens at the end of October. This is your chance to jump in on your favourite sport, meet new people and stay active in a fun way. Whether you’re into volleyball or curling, they have a long list of over 15 different sports leagues for you to join.
Commitment can be hard so if you don’t want to join a league for the whole season with weekly games, the CSSC offers one off tournaments that you can enter a team in. Spend the weekend with your team in the community without having to feel overwhelmed by committing to yet another activity. The first tournament coming up is the Indoor Volleyball Tournament on October 20 (and another one on November 24). Put together a reunion for your university intramural team for old times sake or join as an individual and make a whole team of new friends.
October 27, the Love Boat Curling Bonspiel will be going down and you won’t want to miss it. You might be too young to remember the legendary sensation from the 70s but it’s going to be a blast either way. Dress up in your nautical best to enjoy a night of glitz, Titanic, shipwrecks and beaches while enjoying libations between games.
And just when you were sad that winter was coming, get ready for SNO-Pitch. You don’t have to wait for the snow to melt to hit the diamond. This Co-ed Sno-Pitch Tournament is happening on November 3, so start recruiting for your team now. There will be on-site CSSC beer gardens and indoor camping-style games so you’ll be able to come in, warm up and grab a beer or two.
There is a lot happening this winter season at CSSC from leagues to tournaments, everyone can find a sport and game that works for your interests, skills and schedule. To celebrate the whole season, there will be a Season End Party for your teammates and new friends. As we get going on the Winter season, keep your eye out for the CSSC Ski Trip in February. It’s going to be a great season, jump on board and keep your winter days healthy and active.
