South Beach Motel is the Retro Getaway We Didn’t Know We Needed

Brought to you by the owners of Southampton’s The Beach Motel, South Beach is a new boutique destination designed with groups in mind!

If you’re dreaming of Ontario sun (we swear it’s coming soon!!), sand that’s way too impressive to be in Canada, and a splash of retro charm for a staycation and mini road trip this summer, there’s a brand new spot on the West Coast that you need to know about.

Just steps away from the shores of Lake Huron in Southampton, Ontario, the brand new South Beach Motel has officially opened its bright yellow doors on 12 gorgeous suites — and it’s bringing bold 70s Miami vibes, family and group-friendly flair, and a whole lot of fun to this beloved beach town.

With a bold and sunny yellow-and-white colour palette, endless Instagrammable moments, and plenty of space to chill, South Beach Motel is officially on our radar for Ontario’s best beach stays. Perfect for a romantic couple’s retreat, girl’s weekend, or just need an escape from city life, this gem checks all the boxes with that Ontario small town charm we love.

a motel with space to spread out

From the same team behind the serene spa getaway, Beach Motel comes this new boutique concept designed with space and connection in mind. South Beach is perfect for longer stays, bigger families, double dates, group getaways, and yes — it has serious bachelorette weekend potential.

We checked in during opening weekend and stayed in a spacious Two Bedroom King Suite. Each king bedroom in the suite came complete with a full closet equipped with a robe and towels, dresser with drawers to unpack, and TV (no fighting over remote rights here).

The bedrooms open up to a mini hallway with full-length mirror, and the room from the outside opens up into the spacious living room with a cough, huge and trendy ottoman, and its own TV.

There’s one stocked and stylish washroom, and one of the most well-sized kitchens we’ve ever seen in a hotel or motel.

We’re talking a full-size iio fridge, stovetop and oven, Nespresso machine, glassware and real plates — the works. It’s a full-blown apartment (but triple the size of a Toronto condo) disguised in a motel getaway. We think you’ll find yourself booking more than one night here.

chill, play, repeat

South Beach Motel isn’t just about staying — it’s about playing and focusing on wellness, too.

The outdoor courtyard is designed for peak summer vibes with all the essentials: a cornhole area, BBQ and bar area, picnic tables, lounge chairs, and a wellness zone.

During your stay you can book a Hydrotherapy pass and head over for some pampering: complete with a sauna, cold plunge area, outdoor showers, and a fire pit.

We loved slipping into the provided robes and heading straight for the sauna that has quite the view, too! All the spaces feel inclusive and like you’re in a community space to connect with your group and other travellers.

That and a courtyard beverage is such a dreamy way to reset before heading to Beach Motel’s restaurant for dinner and to see Southampton’s famous sunsets.

Speaking of sunsets — wow. Just a few-minute walk from the motel is Southampton Beach, home to some of the most gorgeous Lake Huron skies you’ll ever see. Bring a blanket, grab a drink, and soak it all in — golden hour hits sooo different here.

a sister property means access to more

As a South Beach guest, you also get full access to the amenities at The Beach Motel, including the brand new Mirasol Restaurant, a Spanish-inspired tapas spot serving up unforgettable small plates, creative cocktails and bold wines for dinner service.

We were lucky enough to dine there on opening weekend, and let’s just say: it’s worth the dinner stop.

Feeling extra? You can even book a spa treatment at The Spahhh, a relaxing oasis known for its eco-conscious approach and lush treatment menu.
