A Boutique Flatiron Hotel Is Newly Open in Ontario’s Prettiest Village

You don’t need to book a flight to stay in a charming flatiron full of vintage romance, modern touches, and small-town magic!

Set to open on June 27, The Ayrshire Hotel is the latest must-book boutique stay in Elora, a town often dubbed Ontario’s prettiest village (and for good reason). Nestled along the Grand River, Elora has long been a favourite day trip for art lovers, nature chasers, romantics, and anyone who wants to escape the city grind.

This isn’t just any hotel, it’s a total love letter to local history and now with the opening of this beautifully restored hotel, it’s officially time to plan a full weekend getaway.

history meets boutique design

The Ayrshire Hotel lives inside The Dalby, Canada’s oldest flatiron building. It’s been everything from a society meeting hall to a stagecoach station over the decades, but this summer it begins its next chapter as a 16-room designer hotel that blends Scottish charm, vintage elegance, and high-end hospitality.

Every inch of this building has been thoughtfully reimagined by owners Teal and Eric Parkinson, a dynamic husband-and-wife duo who’ve poured passion (and personal history) into every detail. From custom-designed beds to original stonework, each room is different, beautifully styled, and brimming with character.

what to expect

Ten rooms inside the flatiron make up the main building of The Ayrshire Hotel, with an additional six cozy rooms at the nearby Ayrshire House, a heritage guesthouse just steps away.

The quirks of the historic architecture, like a painting by insulin inventor Sir Frederick Banting hanging at the front desk, are balanced with ultra-modern touches and luxurious comforts, perfectly designed for slow mornings, long showers, and sleeping in.

On the main floor of The Ayrshire Hotel, you’ll find The Lobby Bar, a trendy and welcoming spot for cocktails, wine, and small bites, whether you’re checking in or winding down. The bar also serves as the in-room dining provider, making it easier than ever to snack in style without leaving your suite.

If you’re a fan of lavender lattes or handmade bath soaks, pop into Terre Bleu’s retail shop just downstairs. The shop is stocked with edible goods and beauty products made from the flowers grown on their own Ontario farm, and yes—they’re used in the hotel’s guest amenities too.

why Elora needs to be on your summer date list

About two hours from Toronto, Elora feels like you’ve stepped into a storybook. Cobblestone streets, art galleries, boutiques, and some of the most beautiful riverfront views in the province; it’s got small-town charm without feeling sleepy.

While you’re there, you can’t miss the Elora Gorge and Quarry, shopping at all the cute local shops, the town’s festivals throughout the year (check if there’s any events going on when you’re there) and seasonal markets, and their restaurants, cideries, and bakeries that are some of the best in Ontario!

how to book your stay

Pre-bookings are now open for dates starting Friday, June 27 and beyond. If you’re already dreaming of a slow morning with coffee on a cobblestone street and lavender-scented everything… this is your sign.
