Festival of Crafts

Central Library Opening Day Celebration

The new Central Library will be hosting an opening day celebration on November 1st. Come celebrate over live music, crafts, performances, tours and more. Activities include a ceremonial ribbon cutting, Pied Piper Storytimes, a giant Lite Brite and Indigenous Beading. LUKES will be providing free hot chocolate to the first 500 people in line. And in case you’re hungry, our food truck friends will also be on site from noon to 5pm.

Chef To Be is one of the city’s most thrilling cooking competitions. This event will see six head chefs of popular Calgary restaurants team up with their students to compete and raise money for a $5,000 scholarship. Each team will get six specifically chosen ingredients to prepare for an audience of 130 people with no prior preparation. Participating chefs come from Bridgette Bar, Buffo, Char Bar, Hotel Arts, Our Daily Brett and Teatro.

Head over to Fort Calgary on Remembrance Day for a special service facilitated by the RCMP Veterans’ Association of Calgary. The emotional ceremony features bagpipes, readings and choral singers. Afterwards, tour their annual holiday Artisan’s Fair featuring over 60 local vendors. Entrance is free with a non-perishable donation to the Veterans Food Bank.  

Art Market Art & Craft Sale

The National Music Centre’s popular late-night series returns this month with special headlining performances by A Tribe Called Red, Smalltown DJs, DJ Heather, and more. The special edition of After Hours will be part of a week-long celebration of monster synth The Original New Timbral Orchestra (aka TONTO).
