5 Activities in and Around Halifax to Soak in the Beautiful Nova Scotian Waters

With more than 13,000 km of coastline, Nova Scotia is deserves its nickname of “Canada’s ocean playground.” Nova Scotia culture is deeply connected to the sea, and what better way to experience it through water activities on your dates?!

Here are some suggestions to dip your toes in our beautiful Nova Scotian waters on your next summer date. Some are even right in the heart of Halifax!

Paddle-board or kayak on Long Lake

Long Lake is the centrepiece of the Long Lake Provincial Park with pristine waters and endless nature. The lake is the perfect spot for water activities and Long Lake Adventure Company rents stand-up paddleboards (SUP) and kayaks for you to use.

New this season is their Paddles & Pint Packages if your date is a beer lover. This is also just 10-15 minutes from downtown Halifax!

Sea doo or kayak around the Halifax Harbour

Harbour Watercraft Tours offer Seadoo and Kayak rentals for you to whip around the beautiful Halifax waterfront, George’s Island, Mcnab’s Island or the Bedford Basin.  

What an unique experience to take in the stunning Halifax skyline from the waters! Opt for the guided rentals to explore at your own pace, or take their Sunset Tour!

Tiki Tours around the Halifax Harbour

Now this is a date idea for the books! Enjoy 90 minutes of a fun boat ride by Tiki Tours Halifax aboard “Mi Cabana”! Hop on and float around Mcnabb’s Island or George’s Island with karaoke, an LED light show, bar seating to face your friends while on the water, and a FULLY licensed bar are on-board! 

They depart from The Cable Wharf so you don’t have to venture outside of the city for this ultra-cool water date.

Surf at Lawrencetown (or learn to!)

East Coast Surf School offers a selection of surfing lessons for beginners and groups. Whatever you’ve into, they have rentals for surfboarding, plus offer wetsuits and other accessories for beginners. All you have to do is bring a sense of adventure!

They are located at Lawrencetown Beach, approximately 40 minutes driving from Halifax downtown – the surfing hub of Nova Scotia. You’re guaranteed to have good time catching the waves there.

Take a Sailboat Tour with J Farwell Sail

J Farwell (1597 Lower Water St) offers sailing tours in every category, whether you’re a seasons pro or beginner looking for a relaxing ride. Go for hands-on sailing lessons, local wine & cheese tasting on a Sailboat, moonlight tours, and other fully customizable options.
