We’re bouncing straight from the weekend of Leap Year coolness right into a week loaded with seriously bad ass and extremely meaningful activities for International Women’s Day! International Women’s Day is on March 8th year and the week leading up to it is decked with a full suite of special events from Breakfast Panels to educational evenings at the Military Museums! There’s also be some AMAZING things taking place in the YYC food scene. So. There is zero reason for you and your date to get bored this week YYC!

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY BREAKFAST PANEL 

Breakfast and empowering discussions about female equality? Hell yeah!! On Wednesday March 4th, Candy Consulting Company is hosting one bad ass Breakfast panel of female leaders including:

  • Teyden Haycroft of the women’s empowerment agency, The Ace Class + RISE conference
  • Kim Hayden, ambassador for The Know Book & Tribe
  • Christa Hiebert, the president of the Association of Administrative Professionals
  • And Kim Smith, Senior Manager of Community Partnerships Business & Agriculture at ATB Financial

This is beyond a legit reason to be somewhere at 7:30am! The event goes until 9:30am and will take place at the YW Hub Facility.

MARKET + YYC FOOD AND DRINK FESTIVAL 

YYC’c award-winning restaurant, MARKET is famous for it’s incredibly wholesome, flavourful and satisfying menu. In collaboration with YYC Food & Drink Festival, MARKET’s expert culinary crew has designed a delicious 5-course Gluten Free dinner that pairs exceptionally with BC VQA wine. PROJECT INTANDEM AT THE GRAND 

From March 5–7th, this fierce, contemporary double-bill will feature an all female cast performing gravity-defying choreo. Powerhouse duo and local choreographers Sylvie Moquin and Meghann Michalsky designed the choreo to explore hardcore themes of self-understanding through visceral movement. To top is off, the show takes place in the iconic YYC Arts staple: The Grand Theatre — the extremely instagramable heartbeat of downtown. This is the PERFECT way for you and your date to tap into your creativity.

FERRARO AT THE REC ROOM 

On Thursday March 5th, one of YYC’s favourite all-time venues is hosting the hot FREE show for Toronto band, Ferraro — nope, not like Ferraro Rocher. Even better! Comprised of three brothers, this band is one serious, stylin’ triple threat that will most def bright that hype and hustle from The 6 to the stage. Doors open at 9:00PM and will fill fast — try to get there early with your bae!

THE MILITARY MUSEUMS FOUNDATION: INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

The Military Museums is a serious YYC gem that always hosts stellar and very meaningful events. On Friday March 6th, the Museums is hosting an International Women’s Day event that will showcase the grit, courage and pure kick-assness of the women who served in the army during WWII. The evening will feature story-telling, gallery tours, presentations, a special artifacts exhibit and guest speakers. This extremely cool event is pay-by-donation with a recommended $10 minimum. Show some love for the women who fought for Canada as well as women’s equality.
