Rounding up the Hottest Upcoming August Events in Vancouver

Nothing really matches summer in Vancouver, and August is one of the best times to be out and about, checking out all the fun events the city has to offer.

We’ve rounded up some of the hottest events to check out this August, that you won’t wanna miss for some of your best date nights, so keep reading to find out more.

Sweet Sounds of Summer

There’s nothing better than celebrating summer with an outdoor concert at the Vandusen Botanical Gardens! Connect with nature like never before at the very first year of this event for their 2nd edition on August 18th.

Featuring talented musicians from various genres, Ginalina, a Juno-award winner is performing in the morning (recommended for families) and Kutapira in the afternoon (recommended for adults, all ages welcome). Experience the harmonizing blend of nature and melodies at this unique event, and you even get to wander around the botanical gardens for the rest of the day.

Outdoor movies at Evo Cinema

There’s been lots of outdoor movie events this summer, and another one of them coming up in August is the annual Evo Summer Cinema, which is Canada’s biggest free outdoor movie series. You can even get FREE parking when you drive an Evo.

Here’s the movie lineup for films in August: 

  • August 6: School of Rock
  • August 13: Barbie 
  • August 20: Twilight 
  • August 27: Vote Night

Vancouver Pride Festival

Arguably the largest Vancouver event this month, there’ll be a series of events celebrating Vancouver’s 2SLGBTQI+ community this August for the pride festival. Including their biggest event, the parade that runs from downtown Vancouver (Robson street) to Sunset Beach on August 4th.

Afterwards, head to the VanPrideFest, a festival with music and market vendors at Concord Pacific Place

Dished Food Truck Fest

The very first Dished Food Truck festival will be making its debut in downtown Vancouver this summer, brought to you by Daily Hive.

Partnered with the one and only Greater Vancouver Food Truck Festival, this free celebration on August 11 will feature 18 food trucks, live music and of course, an artisan market. 

Festival of India

Brought from the cultural heart of India, it marks the 50th year of the Festival of India that will be celebrated at a new location – Creekside Park! If you’re looking for a celebration rich in history, colour, and bliss as well as a free full course vegetarian feast, head over to Downtown Vancouver on August 17th and 18th. 

Vancouver Mural Festival

Enjoy the annual outdoor celebration of public art designed to connect, reflect and celebrate our diverse communities through art and live events. It’s a great opportunity to explore the creative side of Vancouver’s great outdoors and discover a bunch of new favourite murals, artists, performers, communities, neighbours and more!

Theatre Under the Stars

This unique, open-air theatre nestled in Stanley Park hosts an array of performances throughout the summer months, ranging from musicals to Shakespearean plays. This season they’ll be showcasing CATS, one of the longest-running and most beloved musicals in Broadway and West End history, and School of Rock, which is based on the hit 2003 film.

African Descent Festival

Head to English Bay beach on August 10th and 11th to celebrate the cultural diversity of the African diaspora for the African Descent Festival. This two-day festival highlights a parade, which features colourful costumes, traditional music and dancing. Expect to see lots of public art, installations, night markets, craft fairs and more!
